Making a WHOLE TRACK mono in Soundtrack Pro

Hey guys,

I've shot a short (5 minute) film using a mono mic, it's recorded the sound to the left channel only.

I'm trying to make the whole track mono so the sound comes out of both speakers. I've found the make clip mono option, that works great but it wont allow me to select all the clips on the track (i exported from FCP so the clips are all edited with the video)

Anyone know a workflow for this?

Cheers

You would just apply a Fill Left or Fill Right effect (or whichever the Soundtrack Pro equivalent is) and it'll take that one channel and duplicate it left and right.

Why not just make it a stereo track?

Well the simple answer would be because he doesn't have a stereo track. Not to be snide but you can not record stereo with a mono mic.

So pan it center. Also you should loose the second channel. With nothing to feed it it probably has some noise on it, so delete it or mute it.

And if your only working with one track there isn't much reason to go to STP.

In your video editor you can send the left-channel-only "stereo" track to a mono submix track which then goes to stereo master track. Mono submix sums the left and (empty) right and that is respread as double mono to the stereo master. No need for SOundtrack pro, FCP can do this, very basic.
