Hi guys. I know this may not be exactly the perfect section for this but i figured people here might be knowledgeable about this.

Basically I need to make my own website. Preferably in the next couple of weeks, and then I will need 3 different ones within the next couple of months.

Problem: I don't know what the hell I am doing. I know some basic HTML at best but that is it. I don't really understand how I would find a host etc. Or I am just starting to. Here is the thing. I learn very fast and this is a skill I would love to have. I feel crippled almost not knowing how to do this. I started researching and reading, like I normally do to learn about something, and I did that for about 4 hours on the internet. I have a better understanding in a sense I guess, but a better understanding of how darn hard this is going to be. And I have more questions if anything. Also, I didn't feel like reading about it for the next 2 days. But I need to get this done. So can anyone share some info that helped them? Thoughts, links, articles, cool websites, but mainly advice. The thing is, I don't have money. This website is for that - to make money. So it needs to be at least decent looking. I have an artistic eye and I like design so I think I can do a decent job whether I have to use a template or whatever. But I can't pay a web-designer thousands or even 500 bucks. I also am not going to use a free host because that is just not reliable for making money and I hear they can suddenly disappear etc.

So yeah... DVX users... any help? Thanks :cheesy:

What tools do you have available to you? If you are going to be hard coding I'd recommend some kind of quick learn book like one in the "dummy's series (I hate that they call their readers "dummies" but some in the series are pretty good). In this case I'd get a pretty generic version for the hard coding.

If you've got a tool such as photoshop or fireworks, I'd look for a title that says something like "making a web site with ___________".

Web design/development is a huge area with a ton of different technology choices. With some tools you won't have to even lean html, but to really make the site do exactly what you want and to be able to trouble shoot it, I would say you need to know the following as a minimum:

html
css
javascript

I sincerely wish you the best with this project. I think if you had a bit more time, it could be a lot of fun learning. In your time frame it might be more stressful than fun, but I hope you work through it. I'm one of those professional guys you don't want to pay, but if you get to the point you're overwhelmed and have to find a budget for the project... let me know :)
