Making a slideshow

I need to make a slideshow that is about 4 minutes long with about 80 photos. I want them to all have the ken burns effect and a song playing in the background. I have found that iPhoto makes a pretty deecent slideshow and its very easy. But it becomes very difficult to work with when I import it into final cut. Is there a better way to do this and get better resolution without changing the motion effects of every photo in final cut.

thanks

not meaning to be a pain but this is the FCP forum......hehe

Ok, I do all of my slideshows in FCP because I have infinite control over what the picture does. I would suggest you visit (http://bbalser.com/page4/page4.html) for a link to buy a $40.00 tutorial. This is one of the best photomontage tutorials I have seen for FCP, and I learned even more about the program that I did not know before. It is well worth the 40 bones.

I have never seen foto magico, but after doing some reading, we may give it a shot on the next slideshow we do, I especially like how it is supposed to work with aperture albums. If you are not yet using aperture, you need to invest in it as well. My wife is the photographer of the family and could not live without it.

Tim- no offense or anything taken. I realize this is an FCP thread and extoll many of the virtues that FCP can be used for, however, photomontages is not one of these things.

I can do tons of stuff in FCP, yes, even photomontages. As a wedding videographer (and funeral, retirement, family memory, etc videographer) we create about 4-5 photomontages per month for our clients. In doing this, we had to develop a system that would take us the least amount of time to create GOOD photomontages, without corny effects. While we can do this in FCP, it takes way to much time to set keyframes for every step of the way and to manuver the photo. Furthermore, even when a de-interlace effect is applied to the photos, they come out looking choppy and pixellated when in FCP.

In Foto Magico (and an older application we have used called Still Life), a 100 photo montage can take us less than an hour, as compared to 3-4 hours in FCP. Addtionally, it looks good because you can slightly tilt each photo easily and don't have to set keyframes for anything. We take the QT output that these programs generate, and then edit them in FCP with titles and set them to music. We can do this within Foto Magico or Still Life, but find that FCP lets us refine our cuts better. De-Interlacing will not occur now because Foto Magico spits out a progressive QT file that looks really smooth.

FCP is a great editing tool and we create some awesome stuff with it, photo montage work is something that still needs to be improved in it.
