Making a Screencast with Snapz Pro and Real Video

Hope someone can help me here.

I am making some screencast videos (web tutorials), using Snapz Pro X. I want to add some video as well.

When I record in Snapz I choose 30 frames per second, using the Animation codec and then bring that into FCP, setting my sequence as the same, 30fps/Animation. The frame size is 1024x768.

Now I would like to add some real video and was wondering what I can/should do?

Should I shoot in HD and put it in the animation timeline and shoot it as such that it becoming 1024x768 is okay? Will the animation codec screw up my video?

Or do I scale down the 1024x768 timeline to something like 720x480 and add regular old DV video?

Any help with this would be appreciated as to getting the best results when mixing real video and Snapz Pro screen captures.

Thanks!

I'd imagine that converting the Snapz Pro footage to whatever video codec you choose to use is the best bet, and setting the sequence to that.

I also use Snapz Pro and love it!

Hi,
But I have found that pretty much all other codecs, other than "Animation" do not look good when you export final Snapz mov files so I would be having to place my real video into an Animation sequence and wonder if that will screw it up, not to mention I am placing video that is not 1024x768 into a 1024x768 timeline.

Any experience mixing Snapz with real video and advice would be appreciated.

Okay I thinbk I am being misunderstood but it is my fault because I am not explaining this well enough.

I wan to shoot video with a camera (like HDV or DV) and mix this will video that I record with Snapz Pro. That is what I need help with.

I have my desktop recorded video and video from a camera. The frame size and the codecs are different and I want to combine them into one project.

I have a 1024x768 video of my desktop but I want to add video from a camera and I want pro results. What do I do?

I'd say shoot in HD. I do this for my training DVDs. We shoot video at 720p and then screen-record with the screen set at 1280x720 which matches the 720p HD video and we can cut it all together. These are scaled way down for web preview but on DVD they look great:

Hi Noah,

Okay now I am on the right track. May I ask how you set up the capture and final output in Snapz? Do you use Animation at 24frames or 30frames or something else?

Do you set up your sequence in FCP to be DVCProHD 720/24P or adhere this footage to the sequence settings you apply to accommodate the Snpaz footage?

Well I'm not going to give away all of my secrets,:bath:. But yeah you want to match the screen recording as close as possible to the format of your video camera so that they can be edited together smoothly.
