making a Reel. Best sequence settings for multiple formats?

I am working on my Director's Reel. I have footage mixed from 4 primary sources:

NTSC DV footage from a DVX100
NTSC DV footage from a PD150
1080P Prores footage transferred from Super 16mm film
1080P AVCHD footage from a HMC150

I have been having a hell of a time making this footage play nice in one timeline in FCP. Most of the time the project stutters, pinwheel spins, dropped frames reported on playback, and then an all-out crash of FCP. Several of the project files I have been dealing with have become corrupted and unable to open after several FCP crashes.

So my question:

What sequence settings do you recommend to make the footage all work together? Should I pick a 720x480 sequence and down-convert the HD, or should I pick a 1920x1080 sequence and up-convert the SD footage?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Its a tough one. Were do you expect to output your showreel? Will it be a 480 on youtube? DVD?

Id personally go for a 480 output. No stretching of your SD footage, and your HD will down res nicely.

Looking at what footage you have - what frame rates are you talking about?

Leave the 16mm transfer stuff in prores. Convert all your HMC150 to prores through L&T. Then I might try the DV50 NTSC 23.98 sequence (assuming most of your footage is 24P).

Thanks Noel!

I plan on uploading the reel to my Vimeo page.

Frame rates: the HD stuff is 24, the SD stuff is 29.97

1080p 2398

Your SD stuff will have to be upconverted in the timeline to match the aspect ratio. Hopefully the SD was letterboxed. If you have more questions let me know.
