Making a mask

What is the easiest way to make a mask? Should I use FCP or Motion? I have AE but am not sufficient with it yet. I am going to make it look like sunglasses.

I also want to use either a mask or a still shot of some particular sunglasses and use them as a transition or wipe between clips.
 
It can be done in FCP very easily, no need to run out to another app. Not sure what you're trying to do, if you could give a sample image or more details.
 
You know how you might see a medium shot of someone using a set of Binoculars and then the next shot is a cutaway from that person's POV and you see the half circles (mask) on the screen to make it look like your looking through them. Thats what I need to achieve except I need to do with sunglasses thats all.
 
Easy! Take a still of the shot into Photoshop, create a layer on top, make your mask, delete the video still below so you only have a b/w image, there's your mask. Then use the Image Mask filter in FCP.

I could do it all insided FCP with Conduit, but that would be a long, long post, and it's actually going to be an article in Event DV magazine soon.
