Making a clip longer or shorter..(simple question)

Sorry for such a basic question.. newer to vegas and I just simply want to
edit the length of a clip in the timeline (to get 2 edit points at the right timing)

As i drag a clip longer or shorter I want to see my actions
in the video window above so I know where im moving the new start time to in the video clip.

Right now if i drag the clip longer or shorter the video window doesnt change
unless im dragging the clip through the timeline current position marker.


Or an even a more simple question. Whats the best way in vegas to percisely take 2 clips and
tweak the edit point (the out of the 1st, in of the 2nd) and audition it quickly and make changes

wow,im not even sure im being clear right now.
Hope someone gets my question

Darn, I know you can do this, and I've done it, but I forget how. And my Vegas book is at the office. If no one answers your question, I'll look it up when I get there.

Im new to this program but i would think it would have something similar
to avid.. as in you can open up a screen where you see both of the clips at the edit point.

you can see the last frame of the 1st clip, first frame of the 2nd clip right next to each other
to decide the proper frames to edit on.

If you or anyone else is a user and has an alt way of doing such a thing
i'd be interested in hearing it.
