making 60i footage look 60i in a 24p timeline?

No. If you're working in a 24p timeline, your 60i footage will be converted to something that is vaguely 24p-like. So it'll lose its "60i" nature, and instead become a hack version of 24p.
If you need it to keep its 60i look, you're much better off to edit in a 60i timeline. 24P will still look like 24P in a 60i timeline, so that's the way you'd want to go if you need to mix the two.
