I'm editing material I shot in 24pa on a 23.98 timeline and I want to slow it down as much as possible but yet keep it as smooth as possible too. Is there any special percentage to slow it down that works the best for this?
It will always look choppy. You should've shot it 60i and slowed it down 50 percent. With interlaced footage you can separate the fields and get twice as much temporal information (with 1/2 of the resolution). With progressive you will just be repeating frames and it will look choppy. The only option is to use a plug in like twixtor, which can interprolate the footage and create new in between frames.
