I just watched my new DVDs of Kaufmans "Make Your Own Damm Movie" and thought I'd post a review. Well worth the money. The DVDS include interviews with Trey Parker and Matt Stone as well as James gun and many others. You get to view other independant film makers in action doing what we all want to do. Of course its loaded with Kaufmans campy humor(keep the kids away) but I enjoyed it very much and will keep it on my play list along with my Kevin Smith DVDS. I paid around $40 including shipping for the 5 DVD set. I found it inspiring even though Kaufman definately prefers film. You will recognize many of the movies and people on this collection including the brothers Spierig from Australia who made "Undead". The whole thing is shot on a mini dv one CCD Canon I think(not sure) but its good.
Four thumbs way up!

I've read both of Kaufman's books. While I found them humorous, interesting and even insightful at times, there wasn't much serious how-to. How do the DVDs deal with that? Is it just interesting bits of other people making movies, or are there actual breakdowns of techniques?

The interviews actually contain some insightful questions like "what advice do you have for people who want to make their own damm movie". Seriously I found it interesting just seeing the setups and confusion going on behind the scenes. The Spierig brothers definately had their #$#@ together. Its not a flat out tutorial set but you will glean some information about a lot of topics. I would agree with you on the books but the DVDs are much better.
