"Make movie self-contained" suddenly NOT working

For some reason, I cannot create a self-contained QT movie from FCP 7.0.3.

This is a sudden change that I cannot account for. I make sure to check the "make movie self-contained" box but it doesn't seem to register and multiple files are created (the number of files based, of course, on the duration of the timeline). The project is a 9 minute video but breaks up into (3) 2.15GB files and (1) 2.09GB file.

I have trashed the FCP 7 Preferences file, rebooted, and tried again achieving the same undesired result. I've even tried older projects that I had success making self-contained QT files from in the past; still no luck.

I have never had a problem with this over the multiple years of creating QT files from FCP and don't understand the sudden change. I have used this same combo of laptop and software successfully for more than two years.

Any comments, advice, suggestions, or questions are appreciated.

No, sir. Using an OWC external FireWire 800 drive that I bought new a few years ago. The HD seems to have no issues.

Even if I choose my internal drive as the location, FCP creates multiple files.

Finally figured out the problem: it only occurred when saving to a drive that I had formatted to FAT32. And THAT was the problem.

I suppose if I had thought about David's reply a bit more, the answer would've come to me sooner.

Anyhow, just thought I'd update this thread in the event that it might help someone else.
