Make me convert: is Mac/FCPX a good match for HVX/P2?

You mentioned you don't like having your computers connected to the internet. Mac viruses in the wild are nearly (or completely?) non-existant, the only recent case I know of was pirated software on certain torrent sites so if you stay away from those you will be fine. As far as not liking software that does stuff behind your back, I can totally relate. A staple for Mac power users is an app called Little Snitch which notifies you of any outbound connect attempts and allows precise control over which app can access the internet, what domains, IP addresses and ports it can access and so on. This way you can still use your Mac online, but you have to implicitly allow each connection to the internet before it happens. You can always set a connection to "allow forever" so that it doesn't bug you non-stop for trusted applications. When I download a trial app or utility I will almost always block it unless it has a good reason for needing internet access.

Side note: I've played around with FCPX on my 27" iMac at home using HVX footage and it works fantastically. The 27" LED screen is better than anything I've ever used and I've never had any hiccups with the performance.

1. Yes, I use FCP X with my 7D and HVX-170 daily.
2. Apple retail stores will do that for you, and there's a utility that will also do it.
3. Yes, see my answer to 1.
4. The included keyer is amazing, and third party keyers from PHYX and CHV are very impressive, too.
5. I dislike the color board, some folks love it, I am now using Magic Bullet Looks 2 and am very happy, and it will round trip to Resolve Lite easily.
6. Dealing with audio inside FCP X is really nice, I just did a series of tutorials about it that are coming out at macProVideo's HUB section over the next few months.
7. The App Store is an amazing way to purchase, update, and reinstall software. The built-in firewall on Lion is top shelf. I've been running Macs with Internet connections from the beginning (of the Internet) and have never had any issues at all.

I would like to add that I use the Apple Magic Trackpad and love it. I'll never go back to using a clunky mouse again. But the Magic Mouse was great when I did use it. Also, get some proper training for FCP X so you can avoid some things that trip people up when trying to be self taught. It's a very deep rabbit hole. I highly recommend Ripple Training's videos.
