Make me a logo?

I just wanted to concur...

Great work you guys did for this cat!!

Hell, I'm gonna start my own "Make me a logo?" thread
once Sci-Fest is over.

Edit:
****...I just reread the posts.
Looks like Norm was faster on the buzzer.

Larry, I never heard of stickypod. Putfile was the only place I knew of to freely upload a quick comp. Are you talking about sickypod.com? The car mount folks? I thought the gallery was for owners showing off stickypod uses.

I came to the thread late, but felt like a quick challenge before lunch on a lazy Friday ;-) It's no skin off my nose if directinglegend never comes back. In fact, it'll be more of a hassle if he does, because then I'll have to yousendit him the original elements and/or rendered file.

Yeah, Envision. Why don't you describe the vibe you're going for, and the possible uses: DVD, letterhead, posters, t-shirts? The possible applications of the logo are as important as the design style.

But you might also describe the feeling you want to get across. What does Impact Productions do, who's the market, and what impression do you want the logo to leave? That gets a designer much farther along than just asking "please design me a cool logo". Cool is highly subjective.

AZscott, The stickypod guys have free webspace. If you go in there website you can create an account and host your clips for free. You don't have to own a stickypod

Designed the logo in Photoshop (desaturate, blur, median. I love "Futura" font - one of my favs), then just a quick animation in AfterEffects with a white solid flash, animated Levels on the pic and fade in the "films". 3 different sounds from libraries I own: a synth whoosh, a photo flash FX, and an orchestra stinger.

Hey, I have just learned of ExecuLogo being a scam site. I really should have done my homework before trusting them. Well, in light of all the great work I've seen here, would someone be willing to create a logo for my wedding & event video production company? As I stated in my previous post, I loved the one that briceman did. And I am willing to pay. Please let me know ASAP as I am also trying to take advantage of a great price reduction by vistaprint on business cards. I would want the logo on the cards, and their special ends on Feb 28. Any takers? Again, I could quickly pay through paypal or something. Check out my site to get a feel for my business if that helps. Let me know ...

mystico - sorry to hear you found out the hard way. I too fell for their trick...the entries in the portfolio look very decent for the price. But after I paid them and then waited a couple weeks (they claim 3-4 business day turnaround), finally contacted them, then waited a couple more weeks and got back proofs that looked like a grade-schooler made them. If I was the owner of the design firm, I would be embarressed to turn out the work they provided.

Later I went to Online Logo (www.onlinelogo.com) and am very pleased with the logo they created (http://www.nrestudios.com/images/narrowroad.gif). They normally charge $300, but right now they are offering a discount of 35% so it only costs $195. I believe the initial designs took 3 business days and then each revision was 2 business days.

hey! Thanks for the comments guys! I'm really happy you guys liked this. I know he didn't ask for a motion graphic, but I felt like animation was the way to go lol :)

I made it with photoshop, after effects and premiere.

Essentially I had three layers.

The first layer was the background, which was some footage I shot last weekend, and I blurred it up and did some magic bullet color effects on it, then I ran it through some magic bullet film grain/splotch/dirt filters

I rendered that to a new comp where I put the 2nd layer on it, which was the red font which you can faintly see. I set the font size to like somewhere around 600 I think? And did a left to right motion path. I then I did a multiply blending effect so it's partially transparent.

The last layer was the white Strobelight Film layer. I essentially just did a scale and motion path on it, and ran it through a plugin called Shine, which is where the rays of light came through.

Once I was done, I rendered it out to a DVavi and imported it into premiere, where I put the 16:9 mask on it and put in some sound. The piano was by a buddy of mine, Justin R. Durban (http://www.edgen.com/)

If you have any other questions, go for it. :)

Geez, this has turned out to be a REALLY inspirational & positive thread. This is what the community is about; diverse ideas, different inspirations spurring conversations, helpful tips, etc. Great, great stuff guys ... and that means everyone ... even to Directinglegend who's been absent for a few days, but for starting the thread.

For Larry's comment: Larry, I didn't know you were burned previously by that other place, but I can comment on your logo, having had the opportunity to see the previous drafts/revisions as you narrowed it down. Larry now has a very CLEAN and bold logo that'll be awesome for any kind of print/embroidery work. The trick (shouldn't be too much of a stretch) is to have a killer film animation that'll tie into that same exact logo for his video/film work.

You guys asked about IMPACT PRODUCTIONS. It's a mixed bag, really. IMPACT PRODUCTIONS is currently just the video production/editing label that I do work under ... my official company is Envision Entertainment, LLC. Soon, however, as the video side continues to prosper, I may break it out into its own separate company. Regardless, the logo would NOT need to change at that time, so let's discuss it.

The mainstay of work for it has been for churches, and high end luxury homes (video tours with VO of $6MM homes, etc.) that realtors hire me for. However, it looks like I'll be picking up a GREAT paying job in the next week or so for a band called Everchanging Nomad ... so my work will be varying from working with highly educated rich people who expect some refinement for luxury/fancy stuff, to edgy & trendy with music videos or diverse editing jobs.

Applications would be used at the front/back of videos, intros to DVD, eventually film some day (perhaps), as well as a static version that would look good on letter head, shirts, websites, etc.

TC had a great idea of a meteor that SLAMS into earth, and as the earth explodes the name IMPACT PRODUCTIONS comes out of it. That was before, however, I told him about the high end luxury home thing, and it may not bode well to associate the company name with the destruction of planet earth. :)

Oh, if anyone wants to see the template for IMPACT PRODUCTIONS, that I'm hoping to tailor for the site, you can find it here (template #7070): http://www.templateshome.com/templates-show.html?author=&category=any+category&keyword=7070&price1=&price2=&x=48&y=10

I've also got a DVD duplication company I've started with an investor called PLAY IT AGAIN PRODUCTIONS, but I'm not even convinced it needs a "look" ... though I've tried, and it was an embarrassing result. I found a nifty web template that I'll be working with for it, which the font it has for the company name is fine for now.

Oh, BTW, beggars shouldn't be choosers, so I don't want it to look like I'd expect anyone to do anything.

However, I WILL say this ... with the talent I'm seeing on here, whatever work isn't licensed to use (or even if it is), you've got some GREAT stuff for portfolio work on your web, etc. to show your design styles, etc. Call 'em case studies, or whatever you want ... I'm sure people will be impressed.

Holy cow Envision! That template is great! I love the 3d camera... that's very cool! Who made that?

I could take a stab at the logo if you'd like. It might be a few days before I can crank something out though. Busy weekend.

It sounds like yours is going to be a real challenge, but I think since you've got some high-end clients, it'd probably be best to stay on the classy side. Give me some time to think about this and I'll get a draft of it to you soon.

No rush, dj ... I'd look forward to any ideas. Yeah, I agree that it's probably best to stay a little more on the professional/classy side. That website I found after going through HUNDREDS of templates on that site, and others. I dig the funk style of music, the fun little projector that's got some spunk in it, yet it's also still a clean & professional looking site ... kind of has a nice balance, I think. But, those will be the colors I'll be placing the logo in, unless I changed the color scheme of the site, which I'm not THAT proficient at ... and again, comes down to great design tastes, etc.

I'm not sure who made it ... basically, sites like that & templatemonster.com, etc. have all kinds of artists that make sites & then sell them through places like this.

A tagline I've been using is: Want to leave a lasting impression on your audience? Then you need IMPACT.

Eh, maybe it's lame, but it's what's worked so far.

Well, that would be my first thought, but I've seen people use colors together I would NEVER think of, and they look stunning.

My feeling is always, let the pros do what they do ... if you've got some creative vision, I'd hate to get in the way with a set color structure. Whatever you think'll look professional & compliment that site, I'm cool with, as well as be great in motion as well for intro's, etc.

Sheesh, this is awkward for me, really ... as I hate depending on others, and I feel like I'm on food stamps accepting help from others like this.

There, now that I got THAT off my chest. :)

Ok,

I'm gonna go ahead and put this out there now rather than later. If I don't act asap, someone else is gonna beat me to it. Oh, and I checked with Envision, to make sure he wouldn't think I was stepping on his toes...

Like I said, I was blown away by the logos that I saw created earlier in this thread - and would love to see if some of the talented cats behind them could give my logo a crack. In exchange I would be willing to give screen credit for any and all projects in which the logo would be used.

My company's name is
CallaghanFilms
(no spaces)
(capital C & F)

I am pretty open as far as design. As many of you know, I am a fiend for classic films (especially from the "studio system" heyday of the 1940's.) I would plotz over a look that embodied this period's feel.

That's about it. Animated would be great...not animated works as well.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers:beer: all.
Callaghan

Edit:
...Oh, and some really good cigars to the creator of a design that I use.

If anyone's seen the new KING KONG, that's the font & looks I can imagine for Callaghan Films ... the one that was used in the title/credis.

If you run with that direction/idea, I should be good for at least one good stogey, right? :nads:

Yeah, that's just a funny little smiley, I've been wanting to use today. Oh, and as far as stepping on my toes .... :kali: CALLAGHAN FILMS.

Just kidding ... another smiley I wanted an excuse to use. Seriously, Chad is such the professional that he PM'd me about being concerned of stepping on my toes. Sheesh, since technically I'd already hi-jacked the thread (with some encouragement), he should put his out there as well.
