Make Great Fake Intestines Using Empty Sausage Casings

I found a website (sorry, don't remember it) but it showed how to make intestines with papertowls and liquid latex. Very believable also and you don't have to find "Empty Sausage Casings"

The method you're talking about was always Tom Savini's method to make intestines. This may be the site you were thinking about:

It's really not too hard once you get used to working with latex to start imagining how you can use it in various ways with plaster molds and other materials. Its just a question mostly of building up in layers on whatever you do because if you get latex too thick in some areas it takes forever to dry and may never in some cases--so avoid using too much at a time.

Tom Savini's the man. I bought a book with some of his more basic FX but I also worked in a pro FX studio for awhile and I'm kind of playing around with my own techniques. Like you said, it's a matter of getting to know the materials.

Yes, latex, foam latex, gelatin, foamed gelatin, silicone and silicone gel all have their uses and if you can just learn the basics you can use them all in so many creative ways. When I was a teenager, my hobby was SFX makeup and I went pretty far into mold making and foamed latex. Making complex multi-piece molds, etc. That was really the medium I liked the best and seemed to have the most possibilities. I didn't do so much with gelatin and its derivatives but that is a material thats even more accessible and easy to work with than the very "cranky" foamed latex which is so sensitive to many different environmental things when its being mixed. In any case, I decided not to go into that line of work because it seemed the chances were slim of getting a real break in it.

I didn't do so much with gore but it's fairly easy to imagine how to do it. Really stuff like the intestine trick is super easy if you just use your imagination in concert with a knowledge of the materials available and the different ways they can be used.

It's not hard to find sausage casings. I bought two buckets of them from sausagemaker.com. I saw the site with making them from liquid latex. It was much easier for me to buy the casings and stuff them.
