Make changes after rendering?

Can you make changes to a clip after you render it? I've done a search and couldn't find the answers. Forgive the kindergarten question. Thx

Hmmm, yes you can but something tells me that there's more to your question than what appears. You can always make changes to clips on your timeline although you will have to render the timeline again. The process of rendering does not alter the source clips unless you specifically tell it to overwrite an existing file when you specify the output filename. Is that what you're asking or am I missing something?

I was just checking. I didn't want to render a clip and discover I couldn't alter that clip later or add music, etc. I'm going to send a guy some footage for him to compose music to, but wanted to make sure rendering wouldn't keep me from adding the music later. So, if I want to make changes after I rendered something do I make changed to the rendered footage, or original footage not rendered? I'm still learning a few things. Thank you for your advice and any more would be appreciated!

I'm still not sure if you are referring to rendering as rendering the timeline in order to preview it or as rendering the timeline out to a file for playback outside of PPro. Sounds like you mean that later. I tend to use the term both ways myself but some call that later process 'exporting'. In either case, you would typically go back to the original timeline and source material to make any changes and then re-export. Keep in mind that PPro does not actually change the original footage. It just keeps a record of the changes you make and applies them as it generates the resulting output. This is different than the typical photo editing application that will re-write the original file unless you explicitly save the new image to a different file.

Actually you cleared everything up for me. I should have said exporting in regard to my updated question. Thanks for your advice. I find it MOST HELPFUL!
