Make a quicktime directly from mini dv tape?

So I have someone logging interview footage for me and she needs quicktimes with the same timecode as the tape and it's taking her too long to do it herself. so basically I need to make a quicktime file (it can be compressed or even audio only if possible) but it has to have the corresponding timecode as the tape. Is there a way to do this in real time in FCP or some other software as opposed to importing the entire tape to a drive and then doing it in a timeline? Any other suggestions?
(I have FCP Studio and a G5 Tower)

None that I can think of. You would digitize, and then apply the timecode reader filter and then export a QuickTime.
