Major Writers Block

Hey guys, I need your help. I am currently starting to write my first 30 pg script for my Conceptual Storytelling class.

My idea for the movie is a One legged stripper from Iowa. Thats all I have right now. I would like it to be a comedy.

Do you guys have ideas have any ideas as to where I could take her, her trails and trbulations, etc. I dont even have a proper ending yet, which is killing me.

Any input from you guys would be great. Thanks.

Hi AllAround

How about center the story around her, but not make it about her

-

How about a story of 2 friends that take a road trip to Vegas (You are in Vegas so you can use real life experience) and they end up at a strip joint with this chick; they dig her, and they end up all taking one of those Grand Canyon tours together and later that night, the chick robs a liquor store and they all go to Ceasars and gamble, winning a huge payout

She stays behind as the friends go back to Iowa. Meanwhile, they lose thier virginity to her.

Why/how did she lose it as a newborn baby? Was her mother a drug addict and pregnant? Having her in some grungy hotel without a real doctor at hand, thus dropping the new-born on it's leg because she's blasted? Or did she have the child in the best hospital in the city, yet the doctor was some recent graduate screw-up and didn't handle the child properly?

Was it a birth defect all at once? Some degenerative disease that struck early? Or did the baby come through a-okay, and say some screwed up nurse abused it in the incubator because she wouldn't stop crying and well, the nurse is screwed up?

Who was her mother? Is she alive now? Who is her father? Does he beat the mother or does he try his hardest to provide for his family working the only job he knows how: trash man?

Velociraptor ?

Pterodactyl? Triceratops? Hell, Sabertoothed Tiger? Were they in the hospital at time of birth, and during the hub-bub and about, did the child's leg get broken or chewed off?

For the record, All around: I'm being serious. So, why/how did she lose her leg? Who are her parents? Want to fill us in?

i dont really know how she lost it yet. But her mom works at the local coffee shop in a small town. They live in a trailer. And her dad left right after he found out her mom was pregnant. She works hard watiressing and tries to give her daughter everything she can.

I see. For a script (Comedy, Drama, Romance, even Horror) that's being plotted around The One Legged Stripper, do you feel you just don't know enough about your main character? I can't call her a protagonist, because I don't know if she's that. Maybe she's the antagonist? Could that be the reason why you're suffering writers block?

What made her wawnt to become a stripper, knowing she's only got one leg? What on earth made her think that guys would like that? Not saying that they wouldn't, but I'm asking you why. You know her better than I do.

The third degree will definitely get the ball rolling. Seriously.

I just briefed over this thread, and from your [kholi] constant questions, my mind was going crazy.

AllAround, think about some of the questions he's asking you, and go from there. Develope your hero first, so you know her in and out (no pun!), and the rest will come from that (or at least a lot of it will).

And that was my point. He's suffering from I-don't-know-my-character-itus. Not writers block.

Should be writing an extensive bio, and take care in the fact that while a one-legged lady stripping CAN be funny... it will ALWAYS be a sensitive subject. Thus, make sure you know what you're talking about when you get into playing at handicaps.

But, before we get into all of that... you should probably sit down with your one-legged stripper and ask her about her life.

Edit: By the way, I suffered from this recently. I got out of the habit of bio-writing this past year. After like YEARS of doing it, I dropped the GOOD habit for a BAD one, but now I'm back at it. Don't feel bad, that was I just trying to help.

Yeah Ive already done that. I have a 5pg bio of just bulletpoints. But I think Im going to go with Hudsons idea. After reading his post, my mind has been flooded with ideas. So I need to wrtie bios for the 2 best friends. Then figure out my paradigm, do index cards for each scene, then my treatment. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress of it.

Thnx a lot guys, I love this forum. So resourceful

Oh okay. I thought you not knowing how she lost her leg, exactly, meant that you didn't have a Bio about her. Just seemed like the most important, or close to, part in her life.

Good Luck on the 30page.
