MAJOR AG-DV2500 problem

Please help!

I'm doing video for this conference, they shoot the programs on DVCAM and hand me the tapes. I take the tapes upstairs, capture in to final cut and export to flash. Really simple. Or it should be.

The DV2500 deck keeps stopping - it'll capture for one minute, two minutes, maybe three and then pause. WTF IS IT DOING?!?! I have NEVER had this problem before and I've put hundreds of hours on the heads!I just captured an entire program with it on Friday and printed some video to tape, no problems.

Why is it suddenly doing this? It plays perfectly fine, the audio and video are synced, the image is fine, it just pauses every couple of minutes, forcing me to restart the capture from a few seconds before. I'm on the 20th clip and about 20 minutes in to the program, which means I'm gonna have to spend half the day fixing all these clips up and babysitting this thing.

Please help!

Feel you pain.

Feel you pain.

since you say you have used this setup before and it works fine, it sounds like a simple problem. so, i'll be the ass who asks the dumb questions but:

1: How much space is left on the hard drive? Is there ~15% of the hard drive space left?

2: are you switching from brand to brand with tapes. we used to go from brand to brand and we were always seeming to clog up the heads. since we now only shoot with one brand of tape, clogged heads are significantly less.

3: have you changed anything about your setup, Added any programs/updated any software. or is the only thing running FCP/AP.

4: is this only on one tape? could the tape be damaged. are you reusing tape? how many times? we have also had problems with reusing tape.

I've checked all of those - I've got a brand new 750 gig drive, same brand of tape, no changes to the setup other than the location but it's hooked up exactly the same, and it was on both tapes.

I managed to bandage the problem by switching the capture to non-controllable device. I'm not sure what it was that was causing it, but it seems to have been in the communication between the computers & deck. I tried another deck and it had the same problem, and it's a Sony DVCAM-only deck that they were just using downstairs, so I'm really not sure what was causing it, but I've bypassed it for now.
