magic bullet...

What NLE are you using ?

I find MB to have about 2 or 3 useful looks; the rest are blah (too much). In short ? No; I think it is a waste

save your money.. learn proper colour correction techniques and you can achieve the same results.

magic bullet doesn't really do that much for you, or at least, nothing you can't do with the built in tools of an NLE (unless that NLE is iMovie etc..)

well i use fcp soo yah its all in there, i kinda like the presets idea tho but ehh guess your right lol

NLE=Non Linear Editing System.

I like magic bullet's black frost and the misfire plugins are good too.

To be honest the render time on these plugins make them almost unusable for me but you can get some nice looks.

I'd recomend looking into digitalfilmtools.com and the 55mm plugins.

If you have no idea how to do color correction magic bullet is a good way to get your feet wet. But once you start learning levels and curves and gradients, chances are good that your copy of magic bullet will collect dust on the shelf.

depending on your computer specs upgrade yer MB to v.2, my average render times went from 40min to 3min...

How about Joe's Filters? I'm thinking of getting them. I agree about the long render times for Magic Bullet, I just don't use them.

What are Joe's Filters?

MB takes forever to render so I seldom use it. I have been pretty happy with my Nattress filters.

Can you guys recommend a good book on color correction for NLE's that would describe similar effects and more?

I would rather not use any plug-in that will waste time or degrade the image by re-rendering the whole thing. The only time I would forgive computer image degradation would be for rare shots that need tweaking in Steadymove Pro, since it could be too much work to re-shoot some footage that shakes too much.

While it is often that I spend the time to color correct and tweak, sometimes the juices aren't flowing or I'm in a hurry when working with After Effects. MB is expensive and slow, but one of the cheapest and coolest investments recently was the film magic pro presets from Video copilot.

It's not a plugin, but rather presets, which is cool which means they're made out of the basic color correction tools I use all the time anyway, so their easily tweaked. Even if the final doesn't look anything like the preset, it often is the first place I start to mess around with ae colors. Doesn't work on a nle but in ae it's saved me a lot of time and hassle.

Lynda.com has a tutorial on Cc in FCP. I found it had a couple of handy tips to correct my footage before I begin to grade it.

I use MB and it can give you some great looks that would take forever to figure out in vegas but if you use it the render time increase by 10x.
