Magic Bullet Performance?

ok i just bought magic bullet - for editors.

is it awfully slow at processing or is it just me?

my machine is pretty fast and it takes forever to process.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

It takes a long time to process due to the high bit processing it does. Gives absolutely great results though!

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

i'm just spoiled and most things run super fast.

it takes a little while to play with settings but so far i'm liking it.

just wasn't sure if there might be so trick to speed it up.

Unfortunately not.

Try it on "last years" hardware :P

While ya sleep render...

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

it's intesting though, i first used it on my laptop, standard pentium m centrino etc. nothing special.

and then on my monster desktop machine from hell and although i didn't use a stopwatch the performance seemed almost identical.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

Hmmm - Interesting. That might be something to check out. Maybe X-tra horsepower changes little with this app. :-/

Agreed. The results are sweet, but if Mathew's dragon setup makes little difference in speed maybe design is an issue. $750 is a lot of jack. (non freebie package) I dig the software and assumed the lag was my gear...

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

What machine do you guys have.
Ive got a Pentium 2.8 Gig with 512 mb ram.
It took me 12 hours to render a 6 minute clip on the basic setting.
Hey it looks good though.

I WONDER how an AMD Athlon 64 would run, some of my friends have the chip and are running the 32 bit version of Windows XP (Still waiting for the proper 64 Bit version to come out) and they say it boots up a s%$t load faster).

I also emailed the makers of Magic Bullet yesterday and am still awaiting a reply from them in regards to speed.

They also say that Dual P4s or Xeons would run up to 35% faster.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

i have a dual xeon 3.06 with a hardware raid of 250 gig sata drives and a 10k rpm sata boot drive.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

matthew, thats funny cause I redsomewhere on theMB site that if you have dual xeons it will be 35% faster. That is false advertising! Damn, cause I was just about to upgrade to something like yours. I think I might gor for an Athlon 64 instead. See how that goes.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

Magic Bullet 2.0 is currently in beta testing phase, and I can assure you, it's faster.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

I wrote an email to magic bullet support in regards to my 7 minute video taking 12 hours to render on the basic setting. And this what they replied with:

Rendering is a fact of life with NLEditors, though at times it is frustrating it is something that is a commonality among all video editors without access to hundreds and thousands of dollars worth of equipment-- "pro-sumers". To achieve the high end effect Magic Bullet outputs a series of complicated algorithms must be processed simultaneously, the outcomes are the best results in the field.

Bjorn Thoresen of Videography notes, "The Magic Bullet Is a powerful postproduction tool, one that can work very simply but is also capable of advanced customization... The one caveat is that the more complicated your project the longer it will take to render."

We are working to speed this process up all the time and as someone who tests and uses this product everyday I understand rendering time as well as the amazing output that Magic Bullet produces.

Computationally you can expect 1 second of rendering time per frame at 30fps. So for every 1 minute of video you can expect approximately 30 minutes of render time, if you get something far exceeding this please get in contact with me because you may have a codecs issue or something else is occurring that is slowing you down.

Furthermore, the advantage of an NLEditor versus says a composite editor is they are built to be cut and binned, try cutting down your seven minute video into say 1 to 2 minute timelines [even 20-30 second], perhaps even into a separate project, and test looks and effects on these “strips” before you decide to render out the entire line. I have even created exaggerated layers of one time line and applied effects to one layer to tweak my effect, then save the effect and apply the tweaked effect to the rest of the layers.

Good luck with your project and please get back to me if you have anymore concerns or issues relating to Magic Bullet. Again, if the render time is far more than the example I produced for you definitely get back to support for help.

What do you guys think???

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

well i guess i'll take a 1 minute chunk and see what happens.

easy enough to compare it to my laptop and the dual xeon hovercraft machine.

matthew

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

well his numbers seem pretty accurate.

i took a 1 minute chunk of something in 24pa and added the "epic" effect.

it seems to render out at about 12 minutes even.

so if you figured in the dual xeon plus give it a little bit more for the raid 5 and the 10k rpm system drive and the fact that the data is on one drive and the mis render files that premiere makes are on another drive. so i'm doing a little better than 2x the speed he mentioned.

i definitely see his point about doing a short piece to make sure you like the look and then rendering the whole thing. its just that when you get used to having a faster than average machine it catches you by surprise when it takes a while to render.

with most adobe apps it will do something like tell you it will take 25 minutes and you just walk down the hall and get something from the fridge and when you get back to the computer its done.

Re: Magic Bullet Performance?

man thats quick. It took me 12 hours to do 7 minutes of footage, on the basic setting. I dont see how this happens - I've got a Intel P4 2.8 512 mb. how the heel is it taking soo long. And this is on 2 pc's.
