hey all,

just finished up a metal music video, in the style of old school twisted sister, van halen, and priest videos. it was really ambitious and i had a bunch of effects. i taught myself after effects to pull it off. took a lot of time, but i'm pretty pleased with the way it came out. the raw fx footage came primarily from detonation films.

the bands called white wizzard. i know i'm biased, but they are seriously awesome.

let me know what you think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8-zehtCs7U

I really didn't care for the intro & outro story segments.. but the actual video portion wasn't bad. some of the compositing could probably be blended a little better, the one that sticks in my head is the final element with the white wizard disappearing in a puff of smoke, that smoke element just didn't quite match the lighting or something.. the edges are a bit hard, and it's totally opaque, I think if you just lowered the opacity a bit it might take care of that completely.

I dig the 80's hair band style though, always thought it would be fun to start a band these days and play in a style similar to skid row, old bon jovi, etc.. guess I'm not the only one who thought that. :D

super cheesy throwback to 80's metal. i get it. i dig it. however, the audio during the skit at the beginning sounds very amateurish. i would lose that bit or shorten it a great deal. cheesy works if the production value is solid. see "the darkness - i believe in a thing called love" for a great execution of cheesy throwback.

incidentally, i know the guy with the beard, david light. he was in a movie i shot. he has also been in a crapload of videos including the new p.o.d. vid.

and was that malibu canyon road you were on? the shots with the tunnels?

I actually like the song and the video itself, but I really don't care for the backstory. Shorten it by maybe half and it could be effective.

I'd like to hear more from these guys too,

Kegan
