Made a mistake while recording 720p/25p, want slow motion

Hi!

For a recent project we made the mistake to set the camera to 720p/25p (not pN) and record with the frame rate set to 25 frames instead of 50 frames.

Is it somehow possible to get a smooth slow motion (50p) out of the footage? We tried the DVCPRO HD FRAME RATE CONVERTER and it didn't work

Thanks for any input!

Regards, Xax

damn! That was the answer I didn't want ;)

Can anyone prove that wrong or is it really that way? :(

Thanks for any help!!

You can use an After FX plugin like Twixtor to get slow motion. I've seen some amazing things done with Twixtor such as a whole music video shot realtime that was slowed down in post. It looked amazing. Check out the Twixtor website.

Anyways, you can use Twixtor to give you 50p slow motion from your 25p footage.

Best,
Andy

You can also use After effects own native frame blending modes (without paying for twixtor). You should be able to get very smooth slow motion footage but there is be mosquito noise in frame blending areas.

I wouldn't go frame blending in AE, I would go with the Pixel Motion setting.

The problem is that depending on the nature of the footage, it can warp and distort kind of like the liquefy tool in Photoshop. The best option is to go back and shoot what you want in slow motion again, as no post solution will come close to how good that will look.
