Macro lens solution?

Anyone know of a Macro lens solution for the DVX?

I've got to shoot some severe detail stuff, ideally with a focal distance under a foot.

I haven't seen any sort of macro lens adapter, and I've never used a macro coupler on a video camera, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Macro lens solution?

The DVX has a very nice built in macro mode that can focus down to an inch or so from ther lens. Make sure the lens is zoomed to about 15mm or less and you should be able to achieve macro focus.

If you'd like macro focus capability at longer focal lengths, I'd recommend the Canon 500D close-up lens. It's a high quality two element achromat that is available in a 72mm thread size for about $115 at B&H. Century also sells a couple of achromatic diopters at the princely sum of over $300 each. I'm sure they're excellent, but probably not any better than the Canon--which has a great reputation.

Thanks barry for the info.

I don't own/operate...I'm renting, so I didn't know it focused so closely.

Thanks again.

Re: Macro lens solution?

You can get right down to the surface of the lens, but you have to be in wide-angle to get it. So you can focus close, but the object you're focusing on will be comparitively quite small. If you're looking to do super-close-up photography, you might need to get some close-up lenses.

Hey Barry:

would the Canon or Century close-up lenses allow me to focus clearly on a stamp 2 inchesaway from the lense?

Super8:

Neither will let you focus that close. The +3.5 Century Achromatic Diopter will get you down to maybe 10" but at full tele. I am not positive but if the Canon is a +2 it might only get you to 16" or so at full tele.

The real question is how small an area you want to fill the frame with. Another issue is that if you get extremely close (a few inches) lighting the subject can be difficult.

If you are looking to fill the frame with the stamp, not highly magnify a small part of the stamp, you should not need to get 2 inches away.

Another way to go about it is to put an extender on the lens. I use a 3x and can fill the screen with the head of a dime from 2' away.
