MACraid - fast cheap and reliable?

I searched for a while now but I couln´t find anyting specific about my question:

I want to buy a MacBook Pro 17" with FCP to edit DVCPRO HD in 1080p.

The MacBook Pro has a firewire 800 and a firewire 400 port. I want to plug into each a 500 GB 7200 rpm harddisc and use the Apple Disc Utilities to configure them as a RAID 1 system. (Or chain them together on the firewire 800 port???)

For sure this should be the easiest and cheapest way to geht a RAID 1 configuration on a MacBook Pro. BUT:

Is this fast enough to edit DVCPRO HD on the MacBook Pro ?

Is it reliable?

Yest, that´s fast. I was also thinking about that one or the G-Tech G-RAID2. I´m sure 70 or 80 MB/s will do it for my needs. But both arrays are RAID 0.
I also need security.

So maybe daisychain two of those RAID 0 arrays and configure them in the MAC OS X as a RAID 1 array would do it concerning speed AND security?

Yeah, I'd got the daisy chain route for backup. I've been meaning to get a second unit myself just for that. I don't know if you can configure drives like that as RAIDs -- and you wouldn't really need to. A program like SuperDuper could make you a backup clone every day.
