Mackie ONYX mixers

I'm thinking about getting a good mixer for shooting and for use in post. Was wondering if anyone has used the Mackie ONYX mixers. I'm looking at the 1220 model as it is small. I like that it has a firewire I/O and that you can monitor what is going into your computer from the mixer.

Has anyone used one yet?

Re: Mackie ONYX mixers

I looked into these when I bought my MOTU 828 MK2, They have all the usual niceties of a Mackie product (I mix live stuff with the 8-Buss consoles all the time) Plus a 1394 out for interface to a PC or MAC. I would have gone with one except at the time they were just coming out and my retailer was in hurry up and wait mode about availability, so I have the MOTU. I'm sure they are sweet. Sorry I don't have more info to offer, I just wanted to reply since you had yet to get any takers. Maybe this will jump start the thread.

Re: Mackie ONYX mixers

thanks for the kick start. I'm just a beginning in making my audio on video productions better. I've experience with Mackies in the past (i use to be in a band and did their audio for live shows) and I like the quality and build. I figure the ONYX mixers would be good if not better considering the digital interface it offers. And i'm also fantasizing about the mixer being able to interface with Audio programs as an anaolog controller type of thing. That would be great if it interfaced with Final Cut Pro's mixer features or with any other program for that matter.

any more takers?

Re: Mackie ONYX mixers

The Onyx are a step above the VLZ series of mixers. Great build..the usual you would expect from Mackie. I really like the talkback feature and individual phantom power on each channel. You'll have to double check as to which programs the mixer will work with. I haven't been able to get a straight answer so far. I know it won't work with pro tools as a control surface. If you need it just as an analog mixer, you should be very happy.
