Macintosh Ram & Graphics Card Information

I have a dual Mac G5, with 1GB ram & the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256 MB SDRAM that came w/ the computer. I was thinking about putting more ram in my computer to make it faster. However, the ram that apple makes is extremely expensive. I was wondering what alternative brands people reccomend. I also read in the magic bullet 2.0 software that installing a high quality graphics card can give you real time rendering. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any grapics cards that might suit the purpose of what I'm looking for. Thanks for reading.

As far as RAM goes, check out Crucial.com. Use the "memory advisor tool" to get to exactly what your Mac will take.

I only use Crucial.com. But sometimes I'll just confirm the RAM on their site and buy it from Newegg.com which is sometimes cheaper, just make sure you are getting the same stuff...

I would stay away from using any after market RAM. It might work for now, but later down the road you might run into some problems if you accidently buy the wrong kind of ram (cheap ram). Most problems that people find with macs turn out to be ram problems, by not using apple OEM ram. Find out the ram model # that you need off of the apple site and then search google for a place that might sell it for a little cheaper. I think samsung helps make apple's ram, but I forget. I did research on all of this a while ago. Good luck!

Baloney. Apple may tell people their LCD failed because of RAM but we all know that isnt the case.. Crucial RAM is made by Micron(thats a good thing).

you get what you pay for, I wouldnt buy double discount COMPUSA brand, or spend $100 per 512 from Apple...
FYI apple stocked my new G5 with a POS Maxtor HD, which was the cheapest drive available for the specs they were selling....

Crucial and Other World Computing, used both for many years, both in my own and my clients machines, never had a problem.
