I've recently moved my normal workstation from my 4 year old MacPro to my new 17in MacBook Pro. In many ways it's twice as fast as the old machine, and the old also gave me some graphics card issues that even Apple could never sort out...figures. Anyways I'm up and running now almost a month into normal use, and because it's a laptop I have some obvious limitations.
Current plugged into the laptop is the following:
- 24in Dell LCD via the Thunderbolt Port (Thunderbolt to DVI Adapter)
- GRAID 4TB via the only FW800 Port
- USB Mouse
- USB Keyboard
- USB Cable to dump AF100 / 5D footage (removable but I need it available to dump)
- Sound Cord for speakers
So that leaves all my ports maxed out save my Microphone port and my ExpressCard port which I know you can get certain accessories for like ExpressCard to USB adapters or even FW400 or 800.
My issue is wanting to color correct my footage which I used to do no my JVC Production Monitor hooked up from my desktops BlackMagic Intensity Card. Obviously that's not possible anymore unless I figure out a way to hook up my JVC production monitor to my laptop. I've tried looking for thunderbolt splitters that can give me two thunderbolt ports to possibly hook in my LCD adapter AND some sort of thunderbolt to analog adapter or something. I know the thunderbolt stuff can be daisy chained up to like 5 devices but the port is so new things are in short supply.
Anybody know of any options or do I have to wait for some new tech to come out? One option is one of the BlackMagic's new products that can output tons of things from a thunderbolt port but it's $1000, a little steep for me after spending thousands on gear already this year...not to mention I would need to give up my large LCD to Color Correct because no thunderbolt splitters (apparently) exist.
Just looking for anything I haven't thought of yet. I do have some things I can try but they're mediocre and half-arsed solutions at best.
