Macbook Pro -- slow

I really like this computer, however, the rendering time in FCP is becoming an issue.

It currently has 1 GB of RAM. Would an increase to 2GB make a huge difference?

I'm cutting short docs and music vids.

Nothing heavy effects-wise, however, it seems like every transition and/or video effect needs rendering.

It slows the process down.

What format- HD, DV, Etc? The fastest machines are desktop Mac Pros with plenty of RAM and fast graphics cards.

be sure timeline matches the footy. Also, 2gb ram upgrade would probably give you a 40% performance increase.

is it a core 2 duo or core duo?

This is:

Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Think I'll try the ram upgrade. Anyone know what they charge at the apple store?

I upgraded my MBP to 2GB with a 1GB ram from eBay for $80. Worked flawlessly and I'm very happy with my performance boost.

I have a dual core MBP and I use practically the whole FCP Studio suite on mine except DVD studio Pro (I have that on my desktop) and mine is pretty fast. Even Motion renders don't take long. So you might have to check your RAM and then check your settings and see if that helps. I think I have 2 gigs of RAM in mine.
