Macbook Pro is laughing at me.

So I hit the power button on my MBP and I hear the drive do like one little revolution, the light on the front pulses once then...Click....

It shuts off. I can do it 500 times in a row...same thing. I tried the PMU reset or whatever it's called where you unplug everything, hold power button down, yadda yadda. Nothing.

I read some stuff about an Nvida settlement and Logic chip mobo problems or something???

Anyone know anything about all this stuff?

Have you removed the battery?

If you've really tried everything, you should get an appointment at the Apple store. They'll look at it for free and either fix it or give you an estimate for repairs.

Sounds like a hard drive failure to me. The Nvidia thing is graphics related and you would have seen visual evidence of that. Plus your computer should still turn on. If your computer is under a year old it should be covered under warranty and not cost you anything. For some things like the Nvidia problem they extended the warranty on that part for a few years. Don't know about the rest. Only way to know is to take it into the Apple store.

I don't think it's the Harddrive, it sounds like a faulty logic board. Try to boot directly from your install CD (put it in your computer and press C while starting it.). If it was a harddrive problem, you still would see the grey screen and then a question mark in front of a Harddrive symbol. I used to work for an Apple Store (at times also in the service department), and I had a few cases as you described that turned out to be a faulty logic board.

Agreed. Happened to a G5 tower I had a few years ago.

No, I had the Nvidia thing before and it behaved much like what you're describing. Apple fixed it for free at the second store I went to (the first one said I would have to pay around $300). To eliminate the hard drive guessing, try booting from an external drive or your DVD install drive and see where that gets you. If you boot up, take the machine in for the Nvidia test.

If it's a graphic card issue, the computer should boot normally, you just might not get a picture, or the picture would have artifacts etc.

If it is a graphics card issue or a memory issue, it is very common for the system to not boot. I've had both of these problems before. If it is a hard drive issue, the system will start up and show the question mark in a folder. In addition, logic board and power supply problems can cause the same thing (start to boot then turn off) as I have had both of these as well :)

Best thing to do is go to Apple.
