I'm looking to buy a new macintosh.

For the past 4 years I have been using imacs and now I'd like to switch to a desktop computer..

The one I'm looking at is the 8 core with 8 gigs of ram.

I'm looking for a computer that will last 5 years and up, and one that will keep up with technology.. I edit an hd fishing show and use lots of graphics from AE.

Any advice would be great.

Yes, wait and see what Apple does with a Mac Pro refresh. That will be your best bet.

This comes down to 2500...which is 2500 cheaper than the 8 core

If cheap is your goal, stay away from the Mac Pro then.

there are good deals on mac pros on ebay, just check it every couple of days. I got a guy to knock $700 bucks of the price a few years ago. Don't be afraid to lowball the off lease companies.
