Mac user needs advice from PC users

I'm planning to buy a PC to run, for now, one program with these minimum requirements:

Pentium® II compatible processor 233 MHz or faster
Microsoft® Windows® 98-ME-2000-XP
64 MB of RAM (128 MB recommended, 256MB on Windows 2000 and XP)
450 MB available*disk space
800 x 600 resolution, 16-bit color display or better
CD-ROM drive
Direct X® version 8.x or later
One available USB port (USB 1.x or 2.0)

Are these really low for a PC? I mean, can I buy a cheap desktop or notebook and assume it'll work, or do I need to go higher end? Is a Celeron processor OK?

Thanks!

Dude, I think you living in the 80's! I'm sure computers at that specs should be free! What the heck are you trying to run paintbrush?

You can get a computer 10x faster for less than $200 bucks! Check the net or try tigerdirect.

What program are you trying to run?

1. Stick to Windows XP.
2. Don't get less than a gig of ram.

Without knowing what you're trying to run I can't really recommend more than that.

Oh, and if you bought a computer based on minimum requirements you'd be setting yourself for a world of pain and therapy, especially coming from a mac...

Ah...I thought your purchase was DV rack related.

You should be fine buying a standard Dell laptop/desktop, or any other off the shelf pc.

Is 233Mhz processor speed low?

Is 64MB RAM low?

Is 800x600 resolution low?

If the specs are low compared to whatever Mac you're using, then they're low for a PC.

Hans, it actually seems to be real science. It doesn't measure simple heartbeat, but heart rate variability -- a more sensitive measure of stress. Psychologists use these things with clients.

Why don't you pay to get a little more Laptop and DVRack, that way your stress will be lower knowing that you got that perfect shot and you can use it for that bio stuff...
