Mac to PC- Quick Export of Video Clips

I’m trying to make data CD’s containing clips of interviews I shot while in China, burn them as mpegs and mov (Quicktime) files, and send the CD-R to get translated from Chinese to English. The problem is when I export directly from FCP on my Mac as an mpeg1 or mov, and open the file on my PC, the image comes out night dark. Thanks to the aid of fellow forum posters, I’ve realized the gamma differences between Macs and PCs, and have followed Ken Stone’s advice of correcting gamma and brightness using FCP’s built-in filters:

http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/gamma_mac_pc.html

Problem is, it takes forever to render the gamma and brightness settings! When I place the gamma and brightness effect in the timeline of 2 hours 40 minutes of footage, the rendering takes 6 hours. Then when I export to mov using Quicktime conversion, that’ll take another few hours. Compressor ain’t that quick either.

Basically I just need to put some clips on CD-R that are not night dark because my translators use a PC, and I care about their eyesight. DVD-R is a possibility if it means less compression time. The picture quality doesn’t have to be perfect, but I need good sound for my translators. Any shortcut would be most appreciated. And yes, I realize a G5 would be much faster at rendering, I can’t afford one right now.

Question though, I’m saving render files onto my 500GB G-raid connected through FW800, would it be quicker to place video and audio render files on the internal hard drive? Probably not right? Cause I’ve heard that a FW800 G-raid is 25% quicker than an internal 7200rpm SATA drive in a G5.

Here’s my setup: Powerbook G4 867mhz, 1GB ram, OS 10.3.7, FCP 4.5 HD, 2 (400GB) G-drives, 1 (500GB) G-raid.

Thanks,
Alexander
