Mac Pro 8 Core and Dual monitor Cable?

Hello There!

As of recently my friend is going to be purchaseing a Mac Pro 8 Core computer but is wanting to hook up her two - Samsung 2033SW 20" Widescreen LCD Monitors - 15000:1 (DC), 5ms, 1600 x 900, DVI - to it. I do not use a Mac yet and am not sure as to what, if any, cable adapters or anything she might need to make this run smoothly.

Looking at it she was thinking she might need the - Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI. But isnt sure.

Can anyone help us out?

Thanks so much!

If its the new Mac Pro, you can use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI.

I also just ordered mine. =)

I am not sure you need the dual-link DVI adapter, which is $99, for two 20" monitors. You may be able to connect one monitor to the DVI connector on the graphics card and use a mini-port to DVI adaptor ($29) for connecting the other monitor to the mini-port. I would call Apple to find out--you may save $70.

Anyone having any success/problems with this setup?

I am trying to set up my new 2X2.26 Quad Core and can't get the 2nd monitor to work. I purchased the mini-port to VGA adapter but no luck.

I'm trying to deal with Apple customer service this afternoon, but they haven't been able to help.

First impression, this Mini Display port sucks, I already miss the standard dual monitor setup on my Powermac.

EDIT: It's working now, for no other apparent reason than I unplugged/plugged in the cable a few times. Fingers crossed that it stays status quo!

Which graphics card is your friend getting with the Mac Pro? Both of the graphics cards currently offered with the latest MacPro come with a Dual-Link DVI and Mini DisplayPort ports, so you'll only need one adaptor.

The older Mac Pros came with graphics cards that had two Dual-Link DVI ports.

I recently purchased the 2.8Ghz (2 quads) and it had two DVI outputs on it, and I didnt do any upgrade, so you might only need a DVI-VGA cable as one came with the Mac.
