i'll be the first to post a reply and say BOOO YAH!!!!

Looking forward to this one, and a big phat dual core G5 to run it on ;)

Will be very exciting to see if the new versions of FCP, Motion, et al ship at the same time.

I used to think it was pretty geeky to take note of these operating system launches..but I've been to TWO now..

I don't know if it will be the case for this one, but in the past, if you are in the store at the time they release it (6 PM local time) you can get a 10 % discount off of ANYTHING. I called my nearest store and they were -mum- about that, so dunno.

..am eager to see new FCP and DVDSP.

That would make good sense with nab only about 10 days before the release... Can't wait. Qmaster in FCP/Compressor will make the world a happy place.

I dunno... I mean... it looks cool.
But working in production with a Mac has told me to not fix things if they are not broke.
Even simple OS updates can cause catastrphy.
I think I will wait 6months-year before jumping onto the bandwagon.

Good point with the OS upgrade...let someone else do the RandD for FCP upgrades with tigger.

Wait...I'm confused. Are you working with a Windows machine here? You CAN'T be talking about a mac. and if you are, you must not know what you're doing. Wait 6months-1year and see how much performance you'll miss out on. The audio and opengl etc. is so much more improved. Apple isnt like Microsoft where they ship out everything they can to keep people happy. They delay almost everything- to keep the consumer in mind. Tiger has been in testing now for who knows how long, and its had several release dates- they're not going to release an OS/Upgrade with horrible bugs, thats just not apple.

So what was the purpose of , for example, 10.3.1 ...2,3,4...8. I don't think they've ever released a major upgrade that didn't have horrible bugs.

I've been using panther since it came out. It shipped with a G5 that I bought. It has been problem free. The upgrades have been primarily security upgrades and performance tweaks for final cut pro, itunes, ical, and airport. I just ordered Tiger because it looks like it will enhance new 64 bit programs. In contrast I have been using windows xp professional at work and it has had continual probelms. It also notifies me to install secuity packs every morning when I open it. I can't believe that people use windows when the performance of the macs is obviously superior. Am I out to lunch on this?

If you look at Apple's own lists of reasons for various Panther updates, they've included "functionality" and "reliability" of things like file sharing, disk burning, USB, Firewire, audio, etc. etc. And even the updates have their own bugs.

I like the latest toys, too, but not on the Mac I depend on for an income!

Adding functionality and reliability doesn't neccessarily mean you are fixing bugs and defects, it could simply mean that you are making improvements. Or adding functionality for a new cell phone, a new digital camera, etc. It goes without saying that all computer platforms today are expected to do miraculous things compared to just a few years ago, and that every persons needs and wants and uses are different. Over the years I've had very few problems upgrading. I expect operrating system upgrades and improvements from time to time. I still feel much safer on a Mac, which has "functionality" upgrades every couple months, as opposed to the Windows systems that have daily "security" issues. Maybe I've just been lucky, we all get bit sometimes. One thing I do beleive in is keeping your system as clean as possible. I am a professional photographer, and I burn everything to media as soon as humanly possibly, then get it off the hard drive. Tiger looks so incredible in so many ways. There is no way I could wait 6 to 12 months to install it, even if I wanted to. I pre ordered it yesterday, and I'm already getting my two computers ready to install it. I have everything backed up, or off loaded, I have all my old disc, and can always dump it off and re install the old system if I have to. Just keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well, as it usually has for me with Mac upgrades.

I've got a copy of Tiger now and it's buggy as hell! Mind you I'm sure it's an early version and these bugs will be fixed for the official release. I personally will jump right at the end of the month, no need to wait for a few months and miss out on all the fun! :-)
