Everything was fine, not a creature was stirring...my capture, render files remain sound asleep.
Once came a day when the beast Tiger came to play,
Here here, he says, I have come to stay
and so he chomps and eats and everything was gone
Final Cut Pro sees no light of day after that fateful arrival of the Tiger
but alas! it is been told a month or so, an update shall qwell this
beast and thy files be saved!
poor poor Tony, downloaded the updates and as bad as things are, worse is to come
More files are missing, render files disappear as the Tiger eats and eats away at thy precious hardwork as they drift away to obvlion.

Oh what shall this poor soul do?

hehe... If it ain't broke, don't try and fix. I am leaving my mac on 10.2.8 for now! Anyone know how I can use QT7?? I wanna watch everyone's films!

Tiger has been causeing a lot of problems huh?!
if i leave my computer idle for 2 min it kinda freezes when i move the mouse and i get that little pin wheel of doom. this is my first mac (dual 2 g5) and i dont know if its something wrong with the computer itself or problems with tiger. And i get a TON of problems with FCP4.5 HD.
Should i call Apple?

If you use Techtool Pro 4 or other utilities after installing Tiger, it may destroy or corrupt all your files on your hard drive even if you switchback to 10.2.8 from Tiger. Just do a google search of "Techtool Pro Tiger" Lots of nightmare stories of people losing years of work!! It corrupts the B-Tree nodes.

Tiger is very buggy..go back to your previous version before anything else get corrupted.

i have had absolutely no problems with it. did you guys do clean sweeps of your systems?

infokill ,

Sorry speed post! I presume Tiger came with your G5.

That problem sounds quite bad, so I would return the computer to Apple. If things are bad early on, they will only get worse IME (IME means in my experience...did I just make that up?).

Is the G5 less than 12 months old? May not be easy to return it if it is older... still possible though!

No problems for me so far.
I always do a clean install (i.e. backup everything, erase the HD and install the OS fresh).
If you do an upgrade install, you're asking for trouble.

If your machine came with Tiger and it's acting up, take it back to the store and either get it repaired or replaced.
Apple is rated number one in computer customer service the last five years running.

im still on a G4. i do hear that things are buggy when combined with panther/Tiger and G5. it's weird. esp those reports of program crashes with FCP...not necessarily computer crashing. so problems vary. and some of you need to really take care of your mac. who knows what you are doing to it but a little maintenance goes a long way.

Tiger should be on shipping machines at this point. Just check the About this Mac under the Apple menu.
Make sure you run Software Update in Systems prefs to be up to date since QT, FCP, Tiger have all had updates that may not be installed on your machine.

I'll be checking as soon as I get home... thanks!

I have an old (cough, cough, sputter...) dual 1 gig quicksilver.
I tried to upgrade to QT7 and got burned- bad!
Running the de-installer didn't help. I had to wipe my system and start over.
No more upgrades until .. I dont know.

Tiger is too new - I always wait to upgrade OS's. I have 3 Macs, 2 are running Tiger and the one I use for editing is running Panther with no problems; the Tiger Macs are quirky but functional. I have had no data loss on them.

Yes, it is a bad idea to use Tech Tool - IME it has only ever succeeded in screwing up everything all of the numerous times I tried to use it. Thank god I have test machines to play with.

Been running Tiger for three weeks with no problems. However I never upgrade I always do a clean install when moving up to a new major release. Also did an upgrade to FCP5 at the same time, been working great. ProTools has been slow to update, but I finally got that running on Tiger last week. Everything is working perfectly.

Curious, do you keep your media and data files on a separate HD? I never run any media or data/project files from my boot drive. Also it is not a good to idea to run programs like Disk Warrior on drives that hold your projects, especially render files.

Also I'm a religious believer in booting to safe boot once every few days to clean up the drive and running disk permissions regularly.

Tiger Adoption Rate Very Slow: Less than Panther

The Omni Group’s Software Update Statistics site is chock full of interesting stats. For OS version, they’ve got 10.4 at 44.5%, 10.3 at 53.1%, and 10.2 at a measly 2.5%.

For CPU type, they have G3 at 5.9%, G4 at 70.9%, and G5 at 23.2%.

I've always just run stright out upgrades, no wiping anythig out or anything. Have never had a problem. I know of several G5s with Tiger and Final Cut Suit on them that haven't a single glitch. My own machine has gone threw a dozen edits since my own upgrade and it purrs like a kitten.
