Mac does not detect camera, is my camera broken?

Hi,
Is it possible, that the software inside the camera(Ag-DVX 100) has broken, because suddenly I can not capture anymore...
My Mac laptop does not detect my camera at all. I even bought a new fire wire cable, because I was thinking that was the reason.
None of the softwares inside my computer does not recognize Panasonic anymore. Not even IChat or IMovie. I am using OSX 10.3.4.
And this all happen just few hours ago, when I had a break from capturing, and starting machines again. I am using FCP.

This happened to me but it ended up being the firewire cable.

Just plug the FW cable into another FW port. I had that problem but went away when I plugged it into a different port.

Actually know what, now that I think about it, mine doesnt recognize my camera too! In my preset menus it always come up saying TRV-900 or something and that is a Sony Camera. I am not sure why it does not say DVX100 but nonetheless, I have still been able to get my video into the computer and edit so its all good.

It will always say TRV-900 I think...that is just permently there...

If you are using OS X.3 you can go click the apple in the upper left hand of your screen.

Click about this Mac.
Then click More Info...

This will load up everything about your computer including what is plugged into your firewire...see if it shows up in there...

I used to have issues as well.

I went through 2 radio shack firewire cables before I finally went to the apple store and bought one.

Since then I have had no problems.

Yeah. I clicked "apple" menu and choose " information about this Mac" but it is not detected...
My friend is coming to visiting me with his camera in a next few hours, so then I will know - is this whole case computer based or camera based problem.
I think the camera is broken, even it is really rare. Because this is not a normal capturing problem.

It seems to be this way that my camera is broken, bacause my computer detect other mini dv cams, but not mine DVX 100...
So the case is closed - I hope.

Could you try your camera on someone elses computer...mac or pc?

Yeah. I am going to do that in a few days. But now I am on the road. I will be at home on Friday, so then I will do it.
