Mac book pro (questions: finel cut exspress...)

Hi

I know I've been asking a lot of questions these last couple of days but in all seriousness in the next 3 weeks i will be purchasing a new camera, computer and tripod.

I'm going with the new mac book pro 24 ghz.

I was wondering what do you think are the most important things to upgrade for a filmmaker who plans on doing alot of events documentary and independent stuff. I'm talking about hard drive space,
Memory.....

My second question

since i am buying all these things I will not have the money to buy finale cut pro yet. To tide me over, Should i buy express.

let me start off by saying when i used premiere elements it didn't have the things i need to work with. Is final cut express any better?

hears a link to all the configuration upgrades

http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB470LL/A?mco=MTkzOTI0Mg

keep in mind i want to spend as little money as possible but still have the essentials i need to do what i need to do.

thanks you all so very very much

A couple of points... perhaps you didn't notice the lack of a Firewire 400 port on the new Mac Book Pros... there's only an 800 Mbit Firewire.

I did a quick search, and there is an adaptor that one can get that goes from the Firewire 800 to the 400, for about $15... so if that works... you can use Firewire 400 type cameras...

As for Final Cut Express... I have FCE and not FCP, but I have AfterEffects, so I don't need some of the other features of FCP that may be beneficial if one does not have AE.

I think of FCE as fancy cutting table... for the most part...

Maybe you should go with a refurbished macbook pro?
Much cheaper and professionals here have edited with them for years now with no problems. That would maybe give you some extra cash for whatever you may need. I personally love when apple releases a new computer because craigslist becomes my friend. :)

Speaking of things... the Wife bought a 17" Mac Book Pro last year... I ran over it with the car, shattered the screen, and happily still was runable and hence worth repairing...

But, the real point is... I've loaded all of the Adobe CS3 Production Suite, and it seems to run, I've put in FC Express, and that works fine with my Firewire 400 and DVX100A, etc... and it has an 800 port as well...

The thing is, she was anxiously anticipating the new announcement about the Mac Book series, and was incredibly disappointed... the 17" screen is the 'highres' and matte finish, and it doesn't seem that that is available on the 15", and matte seems also to not be a choice... and there was no improvement for the 17" other than upgraded disk and the solid state disk option, in fact the 'highres' is no longer an option...

So for us the 'new' announcement was a loose loose situation...

What's even worse is Jobs indicated there were 'licensing' issues with Blue Ray... what the hell does that mean... now, that 'note that', feeds my theory, that Sony in order to corner the 'HD' disk market, made incredible deals, deals no idiot even not in his right mind would refuse... and so, the Studios jump at say, 'no license fees' for use of Blue Ray... wow, save a few cents on each disk... why that could be millions in the bank over the years...

But obviously, Sony and Jobs are playing some sort of corporate hard ball, because obviously, Mac is not the lion's share of the market now is it...
