Mac Book or Mac book Pro

Thinking about getting a laptop for use with HVX so i can edit on the go plus download footage too. I will be using mainly 720p footage.

its either a standard mac book spec
2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

or mac book pro spec

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM

The mac book lacks the firewire 800, not sure if it will be enough to run FCP with 720p footage too, trying to save some dolla, but think the pro is the way to go.

anyone?

The macbook also lacks and Express card slot, with a macbook pro you could use the "dueladapter" (Express to PCMIA) adapter to be able to read your P2 cards.

I'd go MBP personally.

I'm at the MBP crossroad myself. I know I definetly want to use a Mac book Pro. Question is...How well does FCS 2 run on the following model with the lower rez screen, and is the 5400 rpm drive fast enough if I'm cutting DVCpro HD stuff ala HVX. I'll definitely be hooking up external HDs for footage.

It should run it well.

I'd upgrade to the 7,200 rpm though. Even if you use an external drive, your main drive will still be accessed constantly by applications and OS so every bit of speed is helpful, in particular with a laptop. This was discussed in another thread recently if.

Get the 7200 rpm drive, you'll get a nice boost of speed.

There's also a 2.6 ghz option if you didn't know.

macbook will barely run 720p because the graphics are integrated in to the CPU. it'll play, but it will stutter and drop frames, and that was just in quicktime. We used a new macbook on our shoot in ireland, and we were thinking there was a problem with the firestore, but tried the same footage on my girlfriend's macbook pro (first version from last year) and it played just fine.
