Mac 8 Core Buyers?

Anyone else in the market for the new 8 core. Just wondering what the feeling was on waiting to see if a new Line up was in store. I am close to buying the 8 core but also feel like they just dropped it on top of the quads for now and will release a full line shortly.

I know if I need it than it doesnt matter what comes next. I just am intrested to see what other 8 core shoppers were thinking.

I had thought about it, but then I don't see where the value in it is. What software is currently engineered to make any use of it? Is Leopard 100% confirmed to make use of it as of October or will it be a later version of Leopard (or perhaps 10.6) before the OS can manage it effectively? I'm not talking about rumours or assumptions, has Apple formally stated such anywhere?

Now that Apple has moved to Intel, they will be constantly coming up with a new "top of the line" model. Intel will keep giving them the ability to do so. So your machine will always be out dated. So I'm more inclined on looking at the state of software and how far behind it is. Specifically in this aspect of things, how long before FCP can/will use any additional processors (or well to the octo or higher level)? More Ram and a stronger throughput of footage I think would give you more stability in FCS than just dumping more processors at it.

Anyway, just how I see it. Currently if I was about to pay for a Mac I'd likely go down to the Two Dual-Core set and beef up other components. But if you have money to burn or a set of projects lined up to pay it all off quickly, then sure why not "future proof" an extra 6 months and go for it.

Cheers.

The only time a real Mac update will be plausible is when native quad cores are released. The difference between the current Quad Core line up and a Native Quad Core will be immediate and brutally apparent.

Just wait.

And if Apple moves away from Server boards and installs a Socket 775 Board in the newest Line-up, Mac owners will probably have the first true upgrade path available to them. Brand new Processors when they hit the market.

Right now, just about anyone with a Socket 775/965a board can go from the bottom of the line Core 2 to the Top of the line Core 2 QX6700, perhaps only having to add cooling IF that. If this was possible for Macs it'd be a whole new ball game.
