Hey guys,

Trying to figure out a few accesories to get for my recently purchased Takumar 200mm F3.5. Here is a link to the lens I just ordered https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Takumar-200mm-F3.5.html

I'm finding a few different adapters on Amazon that I'm finding confusing..

https://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Ada...7&sr=8-3&keywords=m42+to+sony+e+mount+adapter

https://www.amazon.com/Fotasy-NA42-...7&sr=8-1&keywords=m42+to+sony+e+mount+adapter

https://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Ada...7&sr=8-2&keywords=m42+to+sony+e+mount+adapter

Why does the first one look so different? Why does the second one mention "42mm"? I'm new to adapting these legacy lenses to my A7sii. Any input would be great, trying to order it tonight for Saturday delivery!

Recommendations on lens hoods and a tripod collar would be great as well.

Thanks!

The first is different because it is the "pro" version. The only thing that really makes it much different is the word Pro on the outside. All of them will probably be a bit short which causes infinity to happen off the stop by a bit.

Okay, thanks man! I just went with the cheap one, it actually had better reviews than the more expensive two. Not too worried about infinity occurring a bit before the actual stop, I'll be checking that focus peaking anyway. Apparently Amazon delivers on Saturdays now, so I'll be trying it out then.

There are three set screws that hold the inner threaded part in place, these are designed to allow you to rotate the lens to the preferred orientation. The other good thin is that you might be able to cut a shim to put under that inner part to lengthen the assembly to get infinity back where it belongs. There is a some plastic shim stock that I've been using, seems to work decently well and you can cut up to some pretty thick material with common scissors.

Cool, thanks. I'll check it out when it arrives for sure. Do you personally use a m42 to sony e (or any modern mount)?

Not e mount, but Fuji X mount. The cheap adapters are all basically the same design with different camera ends. I have a few different Fotodiox Pro and regular adapters, the regular ones seem to be closer to the correct distance than the pro. Some I've machined, some added shims, I should probably be buying the more expensive brands.

Okay thanks! I only spent $9 on this one, granted I paid $9 in shipping so I could receive it tomorrow and try the lens out...haha, I have no patience. From what I've read, both the $9 and $20 get the same reviews and both have the same issues. I'll report back once I've tried it out!

But the $9 is easier to fix some issues because you can remove the threaded part and shim it. One thing to look out for is flare, most of these cheap adapters will benefit from some flocking material or even flat black paint inside the tube.

Totally. I had purchased a ton of flocking material to flick other adapters..I can't find where I stored it though..It wasn't cheap. Seeing as I'll be using this lens for cinematic video applications, I'm not too worried about a little flare as long as it's pretty...
