Last weekend Taylor Moore and I took our M2 units and shot some tests under a simple lighting setup. (At the beginning of my small format clip is a regular DVX100A shot of studio area so you'll get the idea of the setup. Light was single Lowell 500w rifa with Lowell Pro Light for backlight. Lowell Tota for foreground window frame and Lowell Total for background window frame back-under light.)

Taylor used his new Z1 with Nikon lenses.

Next clip is reference of area no M2 , then M2 with Canon 35mm f 3.5 and Canon 100-300mm f3.5 @ 100mm. No colour correction or anything else applied.

Finally outdoors with Canon 400mm

One thing I have definately noticed, it sure would be nice to have a follow focus unit. I feel a bit clumsy when I try and pan and focus at the same time without one.

The M2 folks are claiming almost no light loss from their unit, but in doing this test without compensating, it is about two stops lower for me with the M2. Whether its my lenses or not, for me it means bumping up the lighting. I will be doing more testing with lighting configs in the future.

I shot everything with the DVX at 24Pa with 1/48 shutter speed. Personally, I see additional noise, (but no dead people).
