M2 vs SGPro! My experience...

I recently had the chance to use the SGPro Rev3 in a shoot and let me tell you I was really impressed by its performance. We had been using the M2 adapter for most of our shoots before that…but now I have been converted to the other side! :love4:

First of all the setup is extremely easy! It comes pre-configured for most of the popular cameras (HVX200 in our case) but can be easily adjusted for other cameras (pre-drilled holes and positions). There was no fiddling with the ground glass disc distance…no fiddling with the alignment or anything. My biggest complain about the M2 has always been its adjustment…it was such a pain in the butt to setup and make sure everything is set correctly (even with a hard mount). With the SGpro, we just hooked it up to the HVX and everything worked right away.
The biggest difference was in the picture quality. First, the picture on the SGpro is very sharp…but most importantly we were able to get edge to edge sharpness which we have never been able to achieve with both the M2 that we had. Also the SGpro has no “wobbling” issue whatsoever! Unlike our M2 that always seemed to have a little wobble no matter how much we adjusted them. Now I know some of you may think that we probably didn’t setup our M2s correctly…and that may be…but we spent hours trying to get the best out of them and following every direction but never got them to work to our liking…the point I am making is you don’t have to do any of this stuff with the SGPro. (I have also notice the edge focusing and wobbling issue on other M2 users…).
The light loss on the SGpro is about the same as the M2. The SGpro base plate and rods are very good. They use a slightly different approach than RedRock. To be honest they are both very good. The overall length of the adapter is also about the same between the M2 and the Sgpro. One interesting difference is with the M2 we had to zoom to about 85 to get vignetting out. With the Sgpro we only had to zoom to about 75.
In conclusion I would highly recommend the SGPro Rev 3 over the RedRock M2. I am not trying to “diss” redrock as I a really like their other products, but I truly believe the SGpro is a much better product that achieve much better results for the same price.
