M2 or Sgpro?

Hi everyone!

I am just about to invest in an adapter to achieve the wonderful image of photographic lenses. I will be using Nikon lenses, DX series to be exact. I have a 14mm wide and a 18-135mm zoom lens. My question is which adapter causes less light loss? Is it possible to use either of these adapters in closed environment without additional light than what the environment has?

And overall which adapter would be a better option to invest?

sorry if this question has already been answered as I have difficulty finding my answers among th vast array of topics even with the proper search. Plus I am aslo a lazy man.

The SGPro will lose less light than the M2 I have used a M2 and I love the look of the footage best of all the adapters that I have seen but it seems to lose the most light of them all.

I can't tell you which loses less but I myself have a brevis and can tell you it loses minimal.

In regard to using the adaptor in a closed environment (e.g. a bedroom) w/o extra lights, well unless you want a soft, underexposed and probably out of focus image then I'd say no. You want to be able to stop your lense down a little to find it's sweet spot.

I think you'd make a great choice with either the SG or the Brevis, from the footage I've seen, they seem to be leading the pack.

Bummer about the DX lenses. You sure about that i? Is it because you can't change the apeture or something or do they physically not work at all?

i spent about an hour on the phone with dennis (the brevis designer) and he really took the time to explain a lot to me. there seem to be a LOT of variables that modify the landscape of 35 adapters. you'll here lots of things about one being better at this or that than another one. and i have to tell you ive seen tons of footage from all the major adapters and ive seen ALL and NONE of the various qualities in each one.

from what ive gathered, the general consensus on light loss among the top 3 "affordable" 35 adapters is:

least loss: sgpro
mid loss: brevis
most loss: M2

ive seen both great and horrible footage from all of them. the end result is going to depend heavilly on the knowldge and experience of the user.

if i were going to reccommend one to someone who hasnt much experience with adapters or lenses in general, id choose the brevis. its seems to have the simplest process for setup and adaptability. i quite like the sgpro as well - seems to have great build quality and ive seen some great footage from it - BUT it REQUIRES rails (the brevis does not)

Yes, the Brevis with standard CF1 diffuser looses less light then the SGpro.

but that light loss comes with a price too. the bokeh becomes muddy. when you use the slightly lossier diffuser on the brevis, it loses the same as the SGpro but produces a much better picture compared to the CF1.

Nothing is For free.

I've used them all and I am partial to the SG Pro for reason's I stated in an earlier post (can't seem to find it-search engine or not):

1) build quality
2) sharpness and bokeh
3) comes with custom rails
4) customer service

Going rail less isn't enough of a reason for me since any longer lens or use with a mattebox puts to much stress on the HVX. The Brevis light loss with the standard CF is remarkable and if that were the only criterion - it wins. But pic quality and build on the SG Pro is up to pro use. Top it with responsive / honest customer service makes it deal breaker. I also find it a breeze to set up.
