M2 Encore Test

Has anyone tested the M2 Encore yet?
I'm very excited to see whats the actual difference is and how it competes with the other adapters...

Regards

I shot a scene for my Lossfest entry with the M2 and original microX, and then we had to reshoot the scene and I used my upgraded M2 Encore and microX Encore. I haven't finished post on the new cut that incorporates the Encore footage, but once I have finished I will post side by side comparisons.

I can tell you that the biggest difference for me is that I don't get any vignetting, not even with my 28/2.8. It loses a bit less light too.

there's currently a 15 day wait period after you order the encore. You can pay an extra 50$ and sent within a day of the order, like I did. Fedex estimated delivery is this tuesday the 7th, I'll try and post some footage.

i cant wait to see what the m2 encore can do...
i'm not exactly a fan of any adapter brands at the moment, but redrock seems to be the only company you can get everything u need for an adaptor rig.. ok except a monitor.

Yeah, I agree. I think it's the only one I would get. It and the G35 seem the simplest but the Cinemek is way too long. I also don't have any lenses so I'm interested to hear what benefits this Canon Live Lens will have. You can rent great Canon lenses from Vistek in Toronto for pretty cheap. I'd be using it on a DVX as well.

At least 2 other companies offer "everything u need for an adaptor rig" i.e, rod support, Follow Focus, etc. One even sells 35mm lenses:

Shoot35
Cinevate

So here is my very unscientific test. Please keep in mind that this was not intended as a test, but it is just a reshoot that happened to use the original M2 the first time and the Encore the second time.

The first shot shows some heavy vignetting with that Nikkor 28/2.8. The camera is also zoomed in so far that the FOV is more like a 50mm lens, which kinda defeats the purpose of a wide lens. That vignette was a PITA to fix in post.

The second shot was with the Encore and the same 28/2.8 lens. World of difference. No vignetting, HVX was closed down another stop, and the FOV is correct. Also the actress is cuter (in my opinion, and that does not always happen with the Encore).

The lighting was approximately the same (the hallway was lit from the other side the second time), and the camera position was almost exactly the same. You be the judge - I am very happy with my upgrade purchase.

yeah it certainly looks better but both images look extremely soft compared to what i'm seeing from other adapters like cinemek, brevis and sg. maybe there is a backfocus issue going on?

What I think about the two screen grabs is that we cannot use that as a good comparison... its not even lit properly.. so can someone please do some justice to the Encore before I go buy a Letus :P

Ok, like I said, that was not a test. That was just what I happened to have open in FCP that illustrates a big difference in the upgrade - no vignetting and less light loss.

I have attached another still from the same shoot that has more even lighting and demonstrates that this adapter is indeed sharp. If you guys really want, I can shoot a chart in the next couple of days.
