M2 encore or breivs

Here is the can of worms. I am looking at either if these units. and here is the can opener. wondering from people who have used the brevis, there seems to be some concern from some of the reviews about dust. Is this an issue from people that have had the unit for a while?? just trying to decide. I love both, but being canadian I am leaning towards the breivs. I have a canon xha1. and good nikon glass collection from my stills camera. Chime in and help me make this desicion.

There are alot of forums addressing this issue, this is alot a personal issue, do a search and find them (Might take some time but this stuff is interesting right?) but here are my experiences.

The first Generation Brevis was horrible with dust, construction was not the best either as I recall. However changing the cinefuses (Screens of whatever they call them) caused alot of the dust problems. I used a Canon XH-A1 and brevis (Mp.1) and the results were very pretty. I liked the look, we used Nikon primes (my old set which was a hoge poge of Fs-AIS spec lens).

I have used the M2 with the Z1u and HVX, with Nikon AIS primes. The results where very sharp and nice with the HVX. The bokeh was excellent compared to the Xh-a1 and Brevis combo. With the Z1U its fair but the Z1u isn't the best cinematic camera. The xh-a1 looked alot better, everything was fair. The bokeh was decent, the camera was sharp.

I think Xh-A1 looks the best with the Letus Extreme but thats my 2 cents. I have used every combination of it. The GG class in the Letus is alot more "netural" in the Letus unlike the Brevis which has a very unique warm look to it. I am not saying it is bad, this is just a personal preference.

Just buy one NOW and shoot!

I just re-read the title and I was talking about a M2, not a M2E, if they fixed the mounting and the GG issue, I would lean towards the M2E, the bokeh is not appealing on the Brevis. I haven't seen the new GG form in person. I heard the cinefuse 3 is suppose to look really good. I would just see if you can rent one form Dennis or something. Drive up to his factory and play around with them (If you happen to live near him).

One last note, the M2 and RedRock products are almost death proof, along with Zacuto. the Brevis is a fragile adapter. Not saying its not a tough adapter but the the carbon fiber body Vs. metal box, might play a role in a line of shooting you do.

Again this is all personal prefrence, do whatever you like I have used both and I have been impressed with both for difference reasons. I have used both adapters in the same short for two different moods and looks.

I promise I'll shut up now.

Just to stir up the pot... I'm assuming then you have ruled out the Cinemek G35, the SGBlade, and the Letus Extreme. Why?

Hey did someone mention G35, sorry guys just had to chime in on that one.
You know how much i'm impressed with this "filmic "adapter
G35 is amazing with XHA1 check Vimeo for test clips, wow....

Mostly the choice between the brevis mp.2 and the redrock m2 encore is because that is what I have been able to find suppliers for in Canada. I am not a fan of buying cross border and then being hit with an indeterminate and frequently variable duty and tax that seems to bear no relationship to any real currency value but the mood of the duty officer on call that day.
If anyone knows of a supplier for the letus in canada let me know I will certainly look at it.
The big reason for me to stay away from the cinemek G35 is the no flip thing. I hear it is beautiful and what I have seen it really is producing some great results, but the no flip thing concerns me in the way we tend to shoot things.

Had my Brevis for two years of solid shooting in all sorts of conditions. I have not had one problem with it ever. Dust has never been a huge concern or more then a 30 second fix if it happens.

I guess at the end is really your own preference. I had my problems deciding between Brevis , M2, Letus and G35.

The Pros & Cons
Brevis - Produces images that are close to natural. Fast & Easy setup. Seems fragile. ( Not when it's on your hands you realize how tough it is after all)
M2 - Produces images that are close to natural. One of my favorite when it comes to image look and feel. Bulk heavy and huge setup.
Letus - Seems to soft and warm. Not my type of look.
G35. Beautiful images. Non-flip was an issue and has very little other products to compliment.

In the end I got the Brevis MP2. It works great for me with the HVX. Love the look of it. Cinevate provides more then an adapter solution. The Cinevate provides great assistance and the group of users are friendly and helpful thus creating a unique community that shares and learn about the usage of their products.

A picture of my cinematic rig.

If your decision is base on results, I guess all mentioned above produces good images . In the end , you should decide which is the adpater that will suit your work and liking most. All the best!

Very nice rig indeed, i am a Cinevate fan, but i did not see the Blade in you thoughts though, that's a potent adapter on the market.

I also think that Letus is little to video/industrial looking for me. However , G35 is compatible with most third party product sellers, which actually increases it's versatility in that sense.

I also agree hands down M2 encore is too bulky and very hard to hand hold a shot.
How heavy is the Cinevate with flip by the way?

Enjoy it mate, Dennis has made a great product.
