m2 and shimming

Hey,

how can I shim the base plate and hvx to make the m2 lens match with the HVX lens? What do I need to do?

BTW, if you can describe in detail that would be amazing cause I dont have the HVX or the M2 on hand they're both miles away, I just need instructions to take with me for when I arrive on set.

We're using the Canon Prime Lenses.

Thanks,

I you have the redrock base plate then you will need the shimming kit. Other base plate system may or may not require shimming, such as the Zacuto plate .

SomewhereinLA is right, you need the shim kit, available from Redrock.
Better order it quick, as it may take a while to get to you.

Also, contact the Redrock guys on their site's forum to get the detailed info on shimming for the HVX. there's a video tutorial on how to shim the baseplate on their "members only" forum, you have to be an M2 customer to get access. Explain your situation to Brian Valente in the forum or PM him, he's very helpful.

Hey Loop,

If you're using the RR base and rods, you'll need to use the 1/4 shim and 1/8 shim. You have to unscrew the base plate in and stack the shims in the front- screw it all back together and Voila! All set and ready to go with the HVX.

This is the easy part, now you gotta try and focus that sucker, I'm still working on that one.

cheers,

JP

Thanks for your help guys, but I rented this peice of equipment, buying the shim would be sort of a waste, unless you know of anywhere in Toronto that I can rent the Shim Kit. Is there any alternate way to shim the M2 safely?

We're using a Cavision plate, from what I hear, there is a way to adjust it, is this true?

Thanks,
