M2 and HVX close disaster.

Man today has been wild! I noticed a tiny screw was missing from the front of my M2's Nikon mount. While driving around town to find a replacement screw, the car in front of me slams on it's breaks and I almost rear-ended the damn thing. Meanwhile, my HVX/M2 is thrown from the back-seat, slams into the back of my seat and falls to the floor!!! Upon inspection the follow focus knob is bent slightly, I went to bend it back and as soon as I applied the slightest pressure it BROKE OFF!

I am sure I'll get it resolved somehow, but god damn I wish I could find that asshole in front of me!!!

I guess the moral of the story is don't forget to strap your HVX baby to the carseat.

:crybaby:

PS: the M2 and camera seem to have survived. Thank goodness. I have a feeling if the HVX/M2 were busted, you would be seeing me on the 6 o'clock news atop a bridge somewhere.

Yikes! That sucks.

Whenever i go anywhere with the HVX/M2 and FF and Mattebox, even if im just driving down the block, anything that was more than 10 bucks goes back into its pelican case. if something gets carried for about a block, back into its case. Its not just if something break, ill replace it, no big deal, but its the down time thats not good.

Yeah, I talked with Brian at Redrock, and it is already sorted out. I'll have the part to repair the FF. I will be back and running in no time. The help from Redrock is top-notch. On a better note, when I got home, I tested my camera and M2 for damage and ended up finding an even better M2/HVX config that gives me an even better edge to edge image.

The ironic part is that the next thing on my buy list was new cases for my equipment. Now I learned my lesson.

Buckle up for safety.

Just be glad nothing else any bigger/more important was broken.

:crybaby:Why minolta camera, WHY?

A still camera- a real nice one- an old model. The battery box got busted and now I have to find some expensive part to fix it.

Yes Minoltas are nice. I like them.

Yeah it is hard to get old technology fixed once busted.

My mother just recently brought up an old Super Video 8 camcorder from the 80's that had footage of my childhood. She had many tapes that could only be played back on the camcorder which has no Coaxial, s-video, or component output. It used some bullsh*t multipin connector that was brand and model specific. I had to track down all the camera repairshops in the US looking for this holy grail of pin connector. Finally found a guy who had one (lucky stars) and copied the old footage to a new more universal technology.

If not for that guy, I might of had my childhood trapped on a stupid, ancient, and dead format.

LOL- I just bought an old 80's VHS camera, hoping I could use it for prop or anything else. Turn out you need a fancy wire to playback from it. I got mad. :furious3:

And then I plugged in the wrong AC plug, and the autofocus started to smoke. That was a wasted 5 dollars from a GoodWill purchase.

What exactly did you do to the M2/hvx combo Prodigy, im always looking for an improvement, but i cant think of anything else to do, the picture is already GODLY!

post a pic of the alignment and setup if you can :)

You actually had a childhood that you can stand to watch see again? Lucky bastid. Stop gloating. ;-)

Cynic, my M2 setup has been hard to get right. It was perfect out of the box, but I got ambitious with the infinity focus, and then decided to remove the hood and UV filter. Then things got interesting. Since then I have been testing my head off. It's very easy to get a good picture, but I have been shooting for perfection. So far I can get the very edges within the same focus number of the center.. Odd thing is, you can slightly change focus within one HVX Number reading, (and I think that is really dumb).

I will post my hardmounted setup when it is done. I am waiting on some 55mm extenders from B and H, so I can span the gap.

Also what I find odd is that when hard mounted the HVX and M2 should be theoretically perfectly lined up. But when you zoom past the walls and motor of the unit, the walls do not leave the screen at nearly the same time...... ah well.

thats weird. i look foward to your pics though! you are mounting it so the zoom is over 78-80? mine is at 79 with that damn 17.5 focus. i dont like the focus having focus beween the numbers. they shoulda made it go up to 300 if they needed to.

Isn't a "wasted $5 at goodwill" rather redundant?

Absolutely. I usually do that on purpose when I write my posts.

Got you talkin'. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
