Lunar Eclipse - February 2008

Wow, just saw it tonight. It was wonderful. Wanted to get a camera, but man is it freezing outside. -20 Celcius.

If that camera doesn't give you any image quality (especially in the situation here) I'de hate to see what you consider image quality.

I think that piece if simply fantastic. Great work, period, end of line.

Hell, that's better than I can do with my d70 and 300mm lens. Well, just as good lets say. Tonight was a very clear cold night, which helps, but this just goes to show, it ain't the arrow, it's the Indian.

Ya, it was cold. It was about -20C here too, which is about zero using the correct scale ;) . It made the air nice and clear and still though.

I had my camera on a quick release tripod so in between shots I would take it off the tripod and stick it in side my coat because the shutter adjustment hosed when the camera was too cold. Condensation was not an issue until I took the camera in the house but even then, to protect the camera, I ran a hair dryer near it for a few minutes.

First (lower left) photo:
ISO = 80; Shutter = 1/1000; f = 3.7; WB = daylight

Second (going from lower left to top right):
Same as above only with Shutter = 1/80

Third:
Shutter = 1.6s:

Fourth:
Shutter = 1/1000; f = 4.5

I already posted some pics in the Cafe thread when it was happing, but I didn't post this one. I like that you can see Saturn too (at least I think that is what it is).

I zoomed in on that bright spot Dan and it is indeed Saturn.

You could actually make out the difference between the planet and the rings last night, with a decent telescope. My wife and I took a look.

It was awesome! :thumbup:

But not as clear as what Larry saw. :D

Great great photo (s) Larry.

I was going to watch too but I got sleepy way early and was in bed by 9 so...besides, I doubt it was visible or dramatic here on the West Coast...
