Yeah baby!

IN fact, in was the about the onset of INDY 2 and 3 and JEDI that I started disovering films like The Road Warrior and The Thing. now that is some killer cinema.

So it seems like most everyone starts to hate the stories when they become cute because it detracts from the realisim and caters to children, I'd agree. An artist should be focused on what they are saying and not be all things to all people. If they need to cute they can create other works.

What I admire about Lucas, though I admit he gets too cute for my tastes, is he is very creative and does things his own way despite the huge risks....and he gets things done. These films are huge undertakings that zap the strength out of everyone.

I like Spielberg because he can compose shots that are very comic book style, using forced perspectives, that emphasize adventureous emotions, classic imagery and engaging story lines. I think these stem from his childhood appreciation of the matinee, comic books and dreaming. Terminal was a nice calm piece without all the fanfare, different than what I'd expect out of him, but made a nice story.

One movie I really like for realisim that is much different, (and they're all illusions) is The Cider House Rules. The story itself speaks about the way we should do things & the way things are really done, and why. It's sort of a sweet /tragedy? about the realities we face in life. It's setting is a mixture of beautiful scenery and the shunned dark controveries of life, nice contrasts. I think it makes some very real points that we acknowledge emotionally.


I can see how mixing the types of movies one makes could satisfiy the needs an artist has rather than being a one trick pony.
