I dont believe it for a second. Maybe I have been burnt to much now. But before the prequels came out they were said to be "Darker and more tragic". Alas, Jar Jar.
Then Clones was going to be "Dark" when Annakin finds his mother and "ruthlessly kills" the sand people. Somehow in Lucas' mind, this key scene in the formation of Annakin's dark side, isnt neccersary to show.
despite all that is said, i think this will be as dark as Finding Nemo

The "new Star Wars" geeks are like Next Generation Trekkies . . . they pissed off fans of the original show.

This too is VERY likely - Jar Jar says so many things >:(

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&q

if someone leaks out that the film opens with the usual text crawl and then pans down to a ship piloted by Jar Jar. Said Ship is fired upon as an early test for the cannon that will eventually be loaded into the death star. Jar Jar is incinerated, but not before we see a shot (all digital) of his skin and flesh stripped from his bones in a nuclear flash.
If we open like that, consider me in the sleepover line, 45 days before it opens.. Well maybe turning up 10 minutes early

Funny, I was a die hard fan of the original. I wanted to hate TNG, but ended up loving it (but none of them since)

Personally, although American Grafitti had a few moments, I don't like it. I find it a bit plodding.

Jim, wait until he rereleases it, it's going to kick ass. It's going to have modern cars because they can go waaaaay faster. It wont plod. Also he's putting a completely CG comedy sidekick in it.

On nearly the same note,

I hope the Raiders franchise stops where it is. I know they're having trouble with the script - perhaps they can leave well enough alone.

In my opinion, Last Crusade was a little too fun. Little to wink-wink and clever and overlit. A lot too Hollywood circa nineteen-ninety-something, hey! lets rip some rails with Lee Majors in the back of the PowerWagon on the Warners Ranch behind the Bewitched house and isn't Richard Donner the funniest action filmmaker EVER?

I'd point to melting Nazis at the end of Raiders as the benchmark for scary - Doom just built on that. I'd love to see something as gritty as Raiders if they decide to move forward on another installment.

I cannot stand to watch the new Star Wars pictures - it is painful what has happened to the franchise. I think Empire was the high water mark in the series. They hadn't yet introduced Ewoks, but the production values were way higher than Star Wars.

Hmmm... this post makes no sense whatever. Apologies.

I understood every word - But I'm drunk. J/K ;)

I agree with what you are saying. Hopefully the last SW will be completely different then the last 2

overland,
if that post doesn't make sense, than I'm nuts too.

Although I liked last crusade, if only for Sean Connery. I didn't really like what they did to Denholm Elliot's character.

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&q

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&q

overrated. didn't direct ANYTHING good, took hindu pilosiphy and traslated it with special effects. Only star wars he directed were Star Wars 1 (or A New Hope) phantom menace and attack of the clones. no wonder they were the worst in the series. all he did for the good movies was credited for the story. i think he is an asshole.

And of course you'd refuse an invitation to the ranch, wouldn't you?

Too bad, it's quite incredible.

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&q

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&q

The Hero Saga on which Star Wars is loosely based is far larger than just Hindu philosophy.  Elements of it can be found in nearly every culture and religion on the planet.  It's a large part of the reason the film was so widely accepted, and Lucas readily admits this.

I think that Lucas did a great job of directing the first Star Wars.  I would imagine that it was quite difficult to create such an action packed movie comprised almost entirely of static shots.  I can't think of any other film that has done that.  It is true that Episodes 1 and 2 were not very good, but how much of that was directing, and how much was writing I don't know.  It would require me to view them a few more times to determine an opinion.  And while I am willing to take an occasional bullet for the team, repeated viewings of theose films is too much to ask.

Maybe he is an asshole.  I don't know the man, and I tend to reserve personal judgement on people that I have never met.  But he spearheaded a technological revolution in filmmaking that cannot be accurately measured.  His current concerns continue to do so.  In a way, he, and people like him have made DV an acceptable format for filmmakers.  For that I will forgive him Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks.

Re: Lucas: "make movies nobody wants to see&a

I don't know about what I'm reading here...hmmmm?

Lucas has brought more great innovation into film in the last 25 years than any other film maker. He's the one largely responsible for HD going 24P ....and your DVX. Yes, he got Sony to do it 1st & then others followed. HD 60i was around 15 years ago, only now is it a serious contender for 35mmm production.

Star Wars had some stupid stuff in it, I'll admit, but most of it was great and still is. he's responsible for the creation of ILM, Dolby sound, THX...

I think you guys got it wrong.
